Read items are randomly appearing as unread
I have a tab on my Netvibes page that has a number of RSS feeds. Periodically, these feeds will revert to being "unread" although I've read all the items. Some feeds reset in this way over and over again.
Strangely, some feeds have just recently started having just some of their items marked as unread, rather than every item in the feed; these appear to be quite random!
It's a little frustrating when I'm trying to see what is genuinely new, unread comtent. I reported the fault when I first noticed it to NetVibes and they said they'd look into it. But that was when it was just occurring on one feed; now it's happening all over the place. I've cleared the cache etc but as yet have found no solution.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Inappropriate? We are currently investigating on this issue, can you give us some feed example on which you are able to reproduce this behavior?
-
Inappropriate? It really is quite random; I wouldn't say it can be "reproduced" exactly because it seems that it can happen to any item(s) in any feeds, at any time!
This morning I logged on and supposedly had 16 unread items across 5 feeds, of which only two were genuinely unread. I cleared those again. Just now (a little over an hour later) NetVibes reported 8 unread items on one feed (http://www.etre.com/blog/), and only two were unread. Sometimes it can happen even when there are no new items on the page whatsoever.
It isn't exactly stopping me from using NetVibes, it's jus ta little irritating.
I’m happy to have a prompt response
-
Inappropriate?Immediately following that post, all 15 (read) items in another feed have appeared as unread! The feed is Boxes and Arrows: http://www.boxesandarrows.com/
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problem :-( It becomes to be really really (really) frustrating to be forced to mark the same item 3 times as read (and then, 2 hours later it appears as unread again... sight)
I’m really frustrated
-
Inappropriate?same problem with feed reader for: ww.kelblog.com/atom.xml
first 2 are marker read but 8 following (older) remain unread even after "cache trick" -
Inappropriate? We have made a fix for solving this issue, can you try to clear the cache of your browser and tell us if now everything is working better?
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Tryied it! Better but not perfect :(
http://feeds.feedburner.com/readwriteweb has : 1,3,5,7th ... feed read but 2,4,6,8th unread ??!! -
Inappropriate? For this feed the problem will be fixed after its first update. In 2 hours it will be fixed for all the rss feeds.
-
Inappropriate?I've cleared my cache again. The following feeds are still misbehaving:
http://www.boxesandarrows.com/
http://www.456bereastreet.com/
http://www.lukew.com/ff/
But perhaps, as you say, it will just take a little time. I'll report back if the problem continues. -
Inappropriate?Same for me... I've cleared my firefox cache, waited 2/3 hours for the feeds to be refreshed and when it is refreshed, items that were previously marked as read are marked as unread :-(((
-
Inappropriate?Better, but now is this one not working properly:
http://gigaom.com/category/web/feed/
Let's wait another hour
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate? We are still working on this problem and we are making our best for fixing the it as soon as possible.
tatare99 & downstage > if you try to access to your account do you see any changes is better now? If now you try to mark all your feeds as read are they coming back as unread? -
Inappropriate?When I use the cache with FF2
http://www.netvibes.com/?reset_cache=1
it doe not open a another new Netvibes page anymore as this morning... Is this normal ?? -
Inappropriate? Thanks google for this thread, had the same problem, cleared the cache/cookies, logged out/in, and for now the problem is gone. Hope it won't come back :)
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?NetEx > the url seems to got a problem we are going to have a look on it. But you don't need to use it for this kind of problem, it is just reseting the cache on our server not on your browser.
All > Are you able to see some enhancement this morning? -
Inappropriate?No problem since yesterday
-
Inappropriate?I thought things were much better, but all of my feeds have just refreshed and it's saying I have 26 unread items (but I've read them). Is this a problem that just affects firefox users? I'm running FF2 too. Also I wondered if it might get worse if you have too many feeds, as I've seen it getting worse recently. Is there a maximum recommended number of feeds?
-
Inappropriate? The worst and most frequent offender is still Boxes and Arrows (http://www.boxesandarrows.com/)
-
Inappropriate?@François, : I know that http://www.netvibes.com/?reset_cache=1 is not emptying the cache of my browser :) . But yesterday it did not open as usual a new Window in FF. Today , is working again :)
My feeds look OK, now !
Thanks
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?downstage > we are working on some improvements for fixing the latest issues, I will keep you updated here
NetEx > Yes we have made a fix on this feature :)
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Talked too fast...

Inappropriate?Much, much better today. No random activity to report! Perhaps it is fixed!
I’m grateful
-
Inappropriate? That's a good news, is someone else still got any problems?
-
Inappropriate?It keeps happening to me.
I don't believe it's because of the rss itself but a bad behviour from your database. I'll try through IE6 instead of FF2.
I’m afraid to open my netvibes since it keeps showing up old articles
-
Inappropriate?Well it doesn't seem to happen in IE6.
But it looks ugly and I simply don't want to use IE6 with Netvibes...
Pliz pliz pliz -
Inappropriate?just some problems with FF2 on XP with: Post Dates are mixing and also read/unread

Inappropriate?Mine is still performing flawlessly since I reset the cache a couple of days ago, after the fix. Thank you so much for this.
-
Inappropriate?Ghen > Can you try to clear your browser cache? Is your Firefox up to date?
NetEx > Thanks we are going to make some tests on this feeds
Downstage > Good news :) -
Inappropriate?Hi F,
I will be happy to do that again though I already cleared everything a few days ago in an attempt to solve the problem. I keep you updated -
Inappropriate?Sorry but it keeps happening.
I've just cleared the full computer thing, updated to last FF2 version...
I’m a bit desperate
-
Inappropriate?Hi again, it looks back on tracks today, finally.
Thanks if it's thanks to you :p
I’m relieved
-
Inappropriate?Ghen that's a good news, we are still working on a latest solution for preventing and solving this kind of issue for ever ;)
-
Inappropriate?Dear Netvibes/François,
I am having the same problem as downstage. I am using FF2.0.0.14. This is happening to many of my feeds, but not all - and I too don't think it's to do with the feeds themselves. Have you figured out what the problem is? I have tried clearing my cache. I don't want to switch to IE. Thank you! -
Inappropriate?Kotuku33 > Can you try to clear your browser cache and tell us if now everything is working fine?
-
Inappropriate?Dear François,
Thanks for getting back to me. After clearing the cache last night, I've turned the computer on and off several times. The problem appears to be much better but not completely solved. Random items still seem to come back as unread through various feeds, but at a much lesser frequency. One feed in particular, however, always come back completely unread:
http://news.google.co.nz/nwshp?tab=wn...
I'll let you know how it develops. Merci beaucoup! -
Inappropriate?Kotuku33 > thanks a lot for the link we are going to investigate on it :)
-
Inappropriate?I have this problem all the time with a lot of my RSS feeds in Netvibes.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?RKS66 > Can you give us more informations?
- Which browser are using?
- Can you give us some examples of feeds on which you are able to reproduce this problem?
- If you try to clear your browser cache have you still got any problems? -
Inappropriate?Using Firefox.
Here's an example feed that this morning has been playing up http://www.dominopower.com/feeds/newsD -
Inappropriate?Thank a lot for the example, if we try to access to the url we got an error message:
Sorry! There was an error: Can't process the request because there is no object named "newsd".
The problem seems to come from the feed ;) -
Inappropriate? Thanks a lot, we are going to make some tests on this feed :)
-
Inappropriate?i have this problem intermittently and i do notice it on certain feeds more than others. haven't been able to figure it out but it seems very likely a netvibes issue.
also the iphone netvibes doesn't seem to have a connection with my regular netvibes and in most cases does not even show read/unread or update accordingly.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'm having this problem with some feeds from Yahoo Pipes, her's one for example:
