I received great support for how to exclude people I've already mailed to from a new mailing. Thx!

Hi,

I just wanted to say that I am a new Newsberry customer, and I had a great customer support experience off of GetSatisfaction, but I wanted to post the response here to share it with others that may find it useful.

Basically, I had a list of about 40 people I wanted to exclude from a new email campaign. But when I entered these addresses as criteria in the sub-list feature, that overwhelmed newsberry.

Support came back with a great suggestion for how to do this easier and more powerfully.

Here it is.

Hi Aaron

Its Andrey. I'm in charge of technical support.

I'm sorry for inconvenience. It's seems to me, that the query, that you passed when edited sublist was longer then we support. Our sublists functionality is complex and, unfortunately, its very difficult to make it longer.

Don't worry, the system is pretty flexible and allow you to
specify up to, approximately, about 20 rules to the sublist selection criteria. The problem is in length of the rules. They can't be so long.

Now, let's discuss of whether our system allows you to do what you want. Yes, it does! But in another way. It a bit longer, but, as for me, much more powerful.

If you need to include or exclude a big number of subscribers its better to mark the subscribers with the flag that storing in a custom field and then use it in a search criteria of sublist.

Here is the plan:

1. Open an import page on the same list "MasterList" and put the list of subscribers you want to exclude

2. Put a flag, for instance a digit "1" after each subscriber separated by a coma. That flag will be used to exclude those subscribers from sublist.

I've just created the file for you that was attached to the email. You can use it.

3. Make an import those subscribers. On the step where the system is asking you to select source of columns, set the name for a new column where you put "1" flag. For instance "SendExcludeFlag".

Don't worry, the system will not create duplicates if your import contains the subscribers that already exist in the list. Those subscribers will not be neither duplicated or missed. Instead, they will be updated. And each of subscribers, that you specified in the list, will have that new "SendExcludeFlag" custom field.

4. Open the list and edit the same sublist that you previously edited - "Oregon".
When you will specify the rules, instead of using Email field with the list of your subscribers (as you did previously), use "SendExcludeFlag" "Does not contain" "1"

I had to delete that rule where you pass those emails because of system requirements, but the file that i gave you contains all emails from that criteria

After that you can send your campaign with using the sublist you just created and make sure that marked subscribers was excluded.

I hope my explanation will help you.

Can you tell me why you were not able to import all subscribers for the first time? Was it because of the system error or something related to our system?
I really need to know, what should be improved to make the system more flexible and friendly.

Thanks!
