How do I close a milestone?
What happens when a milestone is done?
I want to delete it, but will that just leave all the tickets closed in it "floating free"?
How do I close a milestone for work that is done?

As of right now, you can't "close" a milestone. We're actively exploring concepts to address this, but we don't have a definitive solution yet.
If you delete the milestone, all of the issues that were associated with it will no longer be associated with a milestone. They'll still be closed, but they won't be accessible by the milestone any longer.
I’m optimistic

Ok, I'll wait till you have a solution here. I don't want them to be free floating.
Ideally I'd like to close a milestone like I close a ticket. That would make it closed so I can't add any more tickets too it (unless I reopen it), so clearing it out the new ticket drop down. But at least it would keep in tact all the historic data on this. -
That's exactly inline with our hopes for improving milestones. We're feeling the pain on this ourselves as old milestones start to accumulate and get in the way. -

Inappropriate?I am having the same issue with milestones. I don't want to delete them because then I loose the grouping of issues, and thats no good as the milestones often tie back to releases.
Ability to closing a milestone would be perfect.
Another thing that would help is making the dashboard display more milestones. Currently the dashboard only displays stats at 2 levels:
- fully picture status
- current milestone (of 1st -by date- milestone listed)
It would be very helpfully if the dashboard included stats for all milestones that haven't been closed. Or give an option on each milestone to say "include this milestone on the dashboard" which is on by default.

These are all definitely things that I'm currently designing solutions to address. It's something that's challenging to get right and still have it be flexible enough for everyone. This feedback definitely helps, though.
