Broadcast a message needs a facelift
Ning has recently added some nice touches to the event and blog entry notifications. However, the "broadcast a message" feature has been left untouched and feels dated now.
Why not also put the picture of the admin who sent the message and allow for a better presentation (even without allowing HTML in the message)?

We need all of the suggestions given so far.
Email (yes, even in this day and age!) is still the primary mode of communication for most people.
And hence, the best way of getting in touch with our network members (for generating and sustaining interest in the network, specially among the not-so-regular users)
* HTML
* No word limit
* Return address

Inappropriate?I have to concur here. The broadcast messages are also hard to read because there's so much header and footer information. I feel like most people will likely hit delete rather than wade through all the irrelevant crud in the messages.
Also, don't limit the characters in a broadcast message!
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? My problem with the broadcast message is that the "Reply to" goes nowhere. Many people accidently reply to the message and it is lost in cyberspace and the person thinks I am ignoring them.
Why now allow a reply to option if wanted?

I like totally agree with you -
Maybe you add an own email address in the broadcast message which your members can use. Or type in your message the URL for the feedback box: your network on Ning + /main/index/feedback -
Good point. I hadn't thought of this, but it would be nice if there was an easy way for people to reply. -
I didn't realise this. Do they recieve a delivery failure by return? -
Inappropriate?Full HTML could allow us to send out newsletters to everyone.
-
Inappropriate?Right now I say at the top of the message:
"DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE - IT WILL GO NOWHERE
Reply to .... (my email)
But that is a pain because people are so used to hitting the REPLY button. But thanks anyway.
Having HTML would also be cool.
I’m surviving

Inappropriate?I don't like the idea of adding a picture of the admin to the message, but I would certainly welcome limited HTML which would not pose a security risk or even the BBcode used in other areas of NING that could be translated to HTML for export to email.
I’m not holding my breath

FANTASTIC !!!! -
Inappropriate?Excellent Athena, I agree with everyone here that the broadcast message is limited and now that the networks have numerous activities, video, events, activity, photos, music and so on we need to message quite an amount of information to members.
Please add the option of sending using html, the system already supports anti spam, the emails only go to members, so I can't see why this shouldn't be something Ning could really jump ahead of other social network platforms with :)
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate? And since 'Broadcast' message is probably used by some networks as a newsletter, regardless of whether that was the intention or not, we need the ability to exclude a member from the broadcast if requested. Agreed all?
-
Inappropriate?Or, at the very least, allow us to only export certain members to email so that we don't have to export the whole list each time we get ready to broadcast.
-
Inappropriate?U think for broadcasting messages, they need to allow us to send it in the same way as notofications for shared blogs, videos and forumentries.
This way it would look much more appealing..
What you cOULD do though, is write a blog, pimp it up anyway you like it, with links and pictures... and send a broadcastmessage wich links to the particular blogentry.
This is a nice and creative way of sharing your stuff in a nice manner and illustrate things in blogs!
Another cool thing about this is that you can discuss the novelties that are going on on your network :)))
I have also another idea...Why don't NING add a link to blogs, in the same way as the 'share' link, that's named: 'Send this blog as a mailing to your members?'. So members will receive this blog as an html email right into their mailboxes. This would be so great i think?
Until ning allows us to have HTML messages, this is the only way to do so!
Zohra
I’m exited

You just made me realize something: we CAN actually post a new blog entry and then simply hit SHARE with the whole network ! -
Hi Brian, this is what i do many times, but then again i dont notice a lot of response to it, cuz many people change their emailsettings for NOT receiving certain things, i believe the broadcastmessage should be excluded from the emailsettings because important announcements from the network should ALWAYS enter the members emailboxes -
I think we need daily digest so that people don't even think about turning off emails. If broadcast message bypasses the members email settings, then NCs should get a warning message if they send out broadcasts more than ones a week. -
Inappropriate? Can we get a text editor? Scratch that, can you make it recognize spaces and other editing? I'm tired of my messages arriving all squished together if I forget to ad break tags.

Inappropriate?Spell check would save me the hassle of copying and pasting on word. Sounds like it would be so simple to add a spell check on the broadcast email. My network is getting large and the more spelling erros that slip thru the worse I look...Thanks
-
Inappropriate?Hi all,
Thanks again for all of your feedback! We are excited to announce that some of the popular feature requests and improvements, like HTML in broadcast messages, are on deck for this fall. Nick posted a blog this morning:

and I wanted to keep you guys in the loop here.
Thanks,
Courtenay
I’m excited for these improvements

Thanks for being visible here on Getsatisfaction - it really means a lot to us. I wish I would get an email from Ning when ever you announce new stuff. -
point in case - just realized I can snap the RSS feed from the Ning blog and make it appear as an email in my mail program :)))
It sounds great about the upcomming Ning aps and the status feed but
you are also creating more notification emails, increasing the nr. one reason we loose touch with our members?
