Does Chat Still Lag out for you?

I'm not a fan of the new chat. Seems to slow my site down a bit and now it's out of site, out of mind (I had it on the main page). I think losing that and losing the avatars in the recent activity were nice theories but bad ideas. People like to see faces. just my opinion...

the new chat is like a phone with no ring tone. When I invite someone to a private chat they hear no sound, a private chat does not pop up, they only see a small green "!" in the chat bar.
Imagine a phone with no ring tone, where you had to look at the phone to see if it displayed a green "!" indicating someone was calling you.
How long before you would upgrade this phone with a ring tone? How long before we can actually invite someone for a private chat?

The public chat DOES have a "ring tone", which is very very important, just not the private chat. This would be like having a phone that ONLY rang when someone said something on a 10 way call.

the new chat is freezing at least five times a day on our network. such a pain for us admins, because we have no idea until people track us down on twitter or email.

and the fact that it doesn't make any sound means following chat is nearly impossible unless you're sitting in front of it.

The new chat is a great idea with poor execution. It would be fine as an IM system (if it would pop up and alert with a sound) but it really doesn't work as a chat room. My average time on site dropped by a minute and a half when I installed it and I was inundated with complaints from users.

We still have a problem with it 'freezing' every few minutes. We have contacted ning and they are looking into it.

This is a real problem for us, members dropping in and out all the time. Any progress on this?

chat is very slow compared to facebook chat - and I hate facebook & love NING, but it's NOT because of the chat.

You made the right solution (except for the fact that we cannot invite to a private chat because you basically gave us a phone with no ring tone / a private chat invite that noone can see or hear) but it's just very slow and unresponsive still.

Give us a phone with a ring tone (meaning a private invite that pops up when we you're invited) - and keep making it work faster.

Flash does not run on iPhone, Flash is the biggest reason why browsers crash, Flash takes up HUGE amounts of resources from the processor.

Couldn't you do a chat in Sprout Core that was FAST, RAN ON EVERYTHING, NO PROCESSOR RESOURCES, NO BROWSER CRASHES ????

We tried Chat for a class discussion last evening. We invited those who could show up at 8pm to chat and everyone else to drop in over the next three days and add their comments. However at 9pm, the first 20 minutes of our chat log disappeared. I looked frantically for a way to save the chat that remained and I could find nothing. About 20 minutes later, the second 20 minutes of the chat disappeared. By 11pm, it was all gone. I wrote an explanation into the chat and this morning that is also gone! Help! Help!

This was sent to ning for help on 11 July and we are still awaiting help - we still have constant lag and ppl getting booted - yes they are using the latest flash - yes they have cleared cache - can someone from ning have a look at chat for us

I suggested something else than a Flash chat. Perhaps SproutCore?
