Estimate time on the s4n scripts..?
Hi Ning team,
I have the "old" script4ning script left on 1 of my sites, when ning "partnered" with Scripts4Ning You told me that most of the scrips are gonna be available for many more networks in the Near future... but instead of making the scripts available to more(all) networks you disabled some of those scripts... :(
I'm still looking forward to use those scripts on my other sites, ( specially the Who's online scroller, and the control freak script) do you have an estimate time when this will be..?
Thanks,
dokun.

Hi all,
Thanks again for your patience while I catch up a bit. Anyone looking for context on Scripts4Ning should check out this blog post:
http://blog.ning.com/2008/11/a-little...
It sounds like there are 2 key issues to this thread:
1) Making sure Scripts4Ning works on the Ning Networks that already had it enabled
2) Rolling out more of the Scripts4Ning functionality in the form of built-in Ning features
So for part 1, if your Ning Network has Scripts4Ning enabled and you're seeing broken scripts, please let us know in the Ning Help Center. That sucks and I want to make sure we're doing what we can here.
For part 2, I know there's a lot of S4N stuff that we want to roll out, but like anything else we need to prioritize and we need to make sure it's awesome before we release it to +1.3 MM social networks. We're tracking requests for specific Scripts4Ning features, like a leaderboard, language filter, more member control options, etc. It would be really valuable to hear what will make your Ning Network more successful — that's going to help our product team prioritize these projects.
I'm marking this question as "answered" but obviously we'll have an ongoing discussion about continuing to build Scripts4Ning functionality into the Ning Platform. Keep me posted!
Thanks,
Nick

Inappropriate?Still wondering about this myself.
-
Inappropriate?Any Ning employee who can answer this?
-
Inappropriate?I'd like an answer on this too. I'd love to have the who's online and the control freak scripts available to me.
-
Inappropriate?Doubt we'll get an answer to this, I've been in contact direct with NING and they've basically told me to "**** off!" without even giving a proper answer.
The 'whos online' script was fantastic and when I asked them when it would be available, they skirted around the question and basically said I couldn't have it and would have to wait and make do with whichever scripts they decide to release in time and 'when/if' they indeed do.
Great! So they released the most boring one available (birthdays)!!
I'm off to SocialEngine if they don't do something soon.

Inappropriate?S4N partners with Ning to help us all but all they have done is mess with us the whole time they say at the begining it will only take a few months its has been quit over a few months. So where the hell are they?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Personally, I'm turning into a conspiracy theorist. I think after the evil genius debacle, Ning became ultra-protective of their platform and they partnered S4N so that they could control/get rid of the S4N scripts and close access to the platform. I don't think they ever intended to do anything with the S4N scripts.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?you're right Dokun and NC, BUT... go to sitesuites.com and check out the Joomla Expander - it's from the same S4N guys and way surpasses any of the scripts that NING may or may not eventually release from the original S4N team - these guys are going places, breaking boundaries and WITH the consent of NING!!! www.sitesuites.ning.com

I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Agreed Stuart. The joomla expander (as scary as it sounds) is the hottest thing I can even imagine adding to my network. It just took my basic cookie cutter ning site, and made it powerful and professional. I highly recommend the sitesuites team and the joomla expander to ALL network creators. www.sitesuites.ning.com
I’m thrilled because my network has some real power and leverage now due to the joomla expander from sitesuites.com

Inappropriate? One of the best things that the Ning platform had going for it was Scripts4Ning. The 3rd party scripts added tremendous value to my social network.
Not only did it allow further customization of my site, but it also increased membership.
After Ning took over Scripts4Ning, they promised they would ensure that all of the scripts would continue to work. The reality is that most of these scripts no longer work and I don't feel that Ning is keeping its promises.
I've even seen new features such as "What are you doing?" on Ning.com and our social networks don't even have this key feature yet.
How many more bad moves is Ning going to make?
Is this platform still about Network Creators like it once was or is it now about Ning.com???
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Why hasn't Ning kept its promises? (Scripts4Ning).
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate? It is my understanding that these scripts have in fact been released to the larger networks such as those owned by Kanye West and 50 cent as well as those not own by celebrities
Supposedly this was to test them out before releasing them to the rest of us. Which in theory is a good idea, but they should be done testing by now since S4N did all the work for them.
I'm not sure but, I believe I read that information on here about a month or so ago. How long have we been on getsatisfaction? Shortly after that.
One of the Ning reps said this back when they were pretending that they would answer us on here.
I’m bored with Ning
-
Inappropriate?still no answers... just more people asking the same unanswered questions.. we need some ning employees to actually answer some questions.. i know.. i know.. ning dosnt need employees anymore since there is pretty much no upgrades planned forever.. and ever..
-
Inappropriate?Hi Or and nicdaslick,
Yes, I am a Ning Employee. You can read my note where I talk about the goals I have for Get Satisfaction here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/ning/topic...
I know you haven't heard from us in a while, and I know that was frustrating. I'm here to change that, and I hope you're patient with me as I work with the rest of the Ning Team to address the dozens of good questions here on Get Satisfaction. Sometimes I won't have an answer right away — in those cases, I'll sync up with my team to get you one.
As I join in the conversation, I hope to see fewer replies like the ones you just posted. They're not constructive, and they make it harder for everybody else to find the useful stuff. My goal is that Get Satisfaction is full of useful stuff for Network Creators — not sure what your goal is yet. -
Hey Nick, what about the S4N scripts? Thought you were merging this with another thread to provide an answer about this? -
Hi Nick, i don't feel that either my response or the response by "Or" was that different from every other post here. The fact of the matter is I have the right to complain when I feel there is something to complain about. This isn't Ning so you can't tell me that I can't complain or delete my posts like you do there.
My goal with getsatisfaction is to either get satisfaction or to continue to vent my frustrations. I'm not getting satisfaction so that leaves me with one option which I will continue to exercise.
If you don't want complaints about your products or service, provide a better product and better service.
Furthurmore, unlike your rambling that only tells us the same party line that we have been hearing for month, I attempted to answer the question and did not just leave a random, unconstructive criticism of NIng. -
Nic: I don't have a problem with complaining or venting at all — in fact, I specifically talk about venting in that link I posted above. We read your vents, we care about them, and we want to tackle the underlying issues behind them.
What is frustrating about your post is the misinformation. No employee of Ning said that (or if they did, please provide me a link), because it's not true. And Kanye West doesn't have a Ning Network.
If Ning isn't the best platform for you, I can appreciate that. Happy to continue this conversation in the Ning Help Center. Just mention my name and link to this convo in your ticket, I'll follow up with you there. -
I will admit I don't remember where exactly I read this piece of information.
Whether or not it is believed is up to the individual.
When I wrote it I couldn't remember if I had read it here or not, I am almost positive I did read it here now and that it was by the guy who used to answer our questions here. I will search my history and hope that I made a comment on the post, if so I will pop back with a link..
However, this link proves that there has been a large scale private beta period.

This is still not an answer. This is the same thing we have been hearing since the S4N scripts got hijacked.
The question was when will we get the scripts?
Nick answers: we are still testing and taking requests. (that's not constructive, Nick)
the real answer is that Ning Apps are expected to release in August. Read the ning blog, developer site, and search the keyword and stop waiting on this joker to answer you.
It also helps to read tech chrunch and other such sites because they get better updates than we do.
Most of the information that I need to know FROM Ning, I find through Google on other sites. To prove my point, visit Mashable, http://mashable.com/2009/05/06/ning-a... for an incomplete listing of apps that will be available.
I got my information on availabilitiy for the Developer Network.
I hope that is constructive enough for you, Nick. -
Inappropriate?Glad to see Ning reps here. Not sure why they weren't from the start of this switch. Or why it took so much bad vibes to get them here. I have a tiny Network, pretty new, and am sorta bummed to read "first we have to convince y'all to use fewer widgets/apps to speed things up before we roll out new apps?" Sounds a bit conflicted, but... I also don't want to see sites with 30 apps and 5-minute load times, so... I'll cross fingers and keep watch!
I’m neutral but hopeful;-)
-
Inappropriate?Me too Barney. I haven't quite figured this yet. How creating new apps but then reducing the number of text boxes and features we can have all works together???
Why bother giving us more features but then reduce our ability to use them???? A bit strange.
I suspect it's a bit of reduce things so their hardware can handle the load easier and add new features to give us a nice cosy feeling.
I know I sound a bit suspicious, but I am at this point.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?Hi Nick,
Thanks for the response. It is good to know that this topic is once again getting some attention. To be honest the former S4N members have felt somewhat abandoned for several reasons, but let's get past that and move forward.
In your post you said "It would be really valuable to hear what will make your Ning Network more successful — that's going to help our product team prioritize these projects" and "...but obviously we'll have an ongoing discussion about continuing to build Scripts4Ning functionality into the Ning Platform."
That sounds great! Where can we have a focused discussion on these items where we can provide you with constructive feedback? Perhaps in a Group? If so, it would be great to simply list out all the S4N features and have the Group members vote on the modules that they see are most important for product inclusion. Maybe that alone would be a great guide for your product management team?
Yes, I know that probably a small percentage of today's 1.3 Million networks subscribed to S4N and the ones who did not have to be taken into consideration as well; however, what you do have with existing S4N members is a specific focus group who can tell you which S4N functions are the most important as well as what they did/did not like about the existing functions. Furthermore, (as promoted) the whole point of the partnership was to bring the great S4N functionality to ALL Ning Networks. There really wasn't a question of it was valuable or not - it was all valuable, and the purpose of the partnership was to include it in 'out of the box' Ning so all could enjoy.
Hoping to see more about this topic in the near future.
Thanks again,
Paul

Inappropriate?the raking leaderboard would be important for our network: fmxworl.com
we asked for it and our members asked us so many times.....
when is that feat. going to be avialable? -
Inappropriate?Sorry..reading the discussion above...I'm not sure why this question has been tagged as answered. I don't see an answer to the question which was WHEN will S4N scripts be available on our networks. Am I missing something?
-
All part of Ning's smoke and mirrors magic act........ -
Inappropriate? The new apps that was just launched simply to not cut it. I need the leaderboard ranking system and a member subscription service asap.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?yeah any news on that? need the same stuff john k. needs for our needwork.
asking for it since a year, but nothing is rolled yet i guess.
ning can you pls update us with a timeline?

this answers the question

Timeline... I was pretty much told to stuff it, and shut up about it with the same request.

The government answers questions better than Ning. I am expecting Dan Brown's next book to be centered around THIS secret society!
