Inappropriate?just saw this question. This is not possible as far as I know. I have already post an idea.

Inappropriate?I think it would open up NING for many new kinds of uses. I run a network where the members that sign up can offer products and services for the visitors to the website, but here it is crucial that these visitors can get in contact with those members exhibiting on the site and it's also important to be able to do this in a way that registers in latest activity and is public. Giving visitors a contact email would not be optimal.
We should have the option to "allow non members to comment: profile comments, blog, photos, movies, forum etc."
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate? Not a smart idea at all! You would have spambots running amok on your networks. As it is, they have already infiltrated a large number of Ning networks starting around March. They were doing it on networks that don't require approval for people to join. These spambots were psoting links to malicious sites in the comment boxes of all members. I had to go to all of the NC's I'm kool with and warn them and have them remove the offending bots (which some had problems removing). Fortunately, none of my networks were affected, since as soon as I discovered the issue, I changed the settings on my networks.
In addition to spambots, you would also leave yourself open to other NC's who could use your comment boxes to fish for new members, placing their badges there. You could delete them, but they can do it a gain and again and again. Then you also have the possibility of pranksters who could choose to post porn to your comments.People don't realize that Ning has certain things set up to protect us. The internet is a great place to do a great many things, but it is also dangerous when you don't know what you're doing or make bone-headed decisions. Hackers and other mischievous parties are waiting for any one of you to do something stupid. You should'n t give them the opportunity, nor should you request Ning to open themselves to hazard. -
I had about 5 spam bots join one of my networks in one day, I quickly banned all of them, haven't heard from them since ;)
It is a smart idea to give the NC's the opportunity to unlock profiles for non member comments. It's not a smart idea to just open them on all networks. It would be even smarter if the individual member could be allowed by the NC to open his comment wall for non member comments.
Millions of blogs operate with comments where you only need to verify through a code that you are human.
Imagine how Ning networks that display, say, party bands. Here the people who might be interested in hiring the particular band could now write this band a message!
I have several networks where I NEED this kind of communication between the members who sign up to display a service or goods and the non member who are their customers.
It's all about choice. Giving the NC the choice to let his members get the choice (or not) to open their profile comment wall for non member comments. In much the same manner they can now choose to approve comments to their comment wall.
A lot of networks operate in a manner where the members are looking for contact with non members, versus the general network where it's all about contact with the members inbetween. -
Inappropriate?Let me add my voice to this idea. While I certainly don't want comments open across Ning, I would like the power to turn on and off open commenting (or even to lock down comments) on specific posts. At the very least allowing for use of the Open ID format (which has been mentioned) would make me happy.
I love Ning. I want to stay here. But there's no getting around the fact that I'll have to consider leaving if this can't be resolved. It runs afoul of the open web that I preach on my blog. -
Inappropriate?Open ID sounds like a great idea. I think members should be able to open up commenting on their profile page and the one posting a blog message should also have the choice to open up for comments.
Decentralize the decision making on open comments.
