Merge accounts, associate multiple email on Ning user
I'd like to merge user accounts ---- user accounts are attached to email accounts... I've been invited to so many Ning communities, often from different accounts, and have been active in several.
But invitations come through to me at different email accounts that I hold, so now, I'd like to merge the different accounts, retaining my history. (I only have 2 accounts, over multiple NIng communities.)
I think this can also be resolved by associating multiple email addresses with a master account.

Inappropriate?I have asked them to do so ages ago now. Please respond to this burning issue. I want to get MAX satisfaction from Ning!

Inappropriate?I was very disappointed with their response -- simple statement - that it wasnt possible -- I know it is not possible NOW on Ning, and that is the point ... it certainly is possible as a feature, and they should treat it as a feature request, instead they tried to assuage my frustration with an inadequate workaround .. .unsubscribing and resubscribing to groups .. something that introduces a discontinuity to the content.
If their web image management people dont get that, they are the wrong people. Time to get on the clue train.
I do fully understand that it may be low on their to do list of feature enhancements .. but that is very different than saying "not possible"

Inappropriate?I have the same problem. I tried to change my e-mail address on one account to be the same as that for the other and got an error saying the address was already registered. Of course I knew that which is exactly why I wanted to do it!

Inappropriate?A slight veriation of a problem... Can you merge a duplicate profile within my network? Someone forgot their password and registered again making two profiles. They had content on the old profile and now on the new. Other than "banning" the old profile, can the content somehow be merged together with a new profile?
I’m confused

Inappropriate? The simplest, common-sense solution (on Ning's part) is to permit multiple email IDs for each account, while giving the user the option to designate one of these IDs as the primary ID.
This is not an original solution (LinkedIn implements something similar), but definitely the most practical one.
Most of the issues we network creators face on Ning could have been easily avoided if the developers at Ning had taken the time to study how similar/competing products were implementing it. LinkedIn is a good place to start, and so is Yahoogroups.
The typical developer response, specially to Yahoogroups, will be something like, "the UI is pathetic!", "so crude", etc.
Who cares!
This, really, is a cultural issue. Is the purpose of the team at Ning writing great and original code, or creating a product that is *genuinely* easy to use, and hence, like. The latter variety, usually, creates "passionate users". And Ning needs them.
Great technology? Or, a great product?
Want to learn even more, and prevent problems (rather than reacting and solving them as each comes up)? All that the developers and the product people at Ning need to do is start trolling the group moderator forums at Yahoogroups. There is 10 years worth of experience buried there, available for anyone who chooses to look. For free.
What matters is, if they are doing something well, learn from them. There is nothing wrong in it. And no less macho. "Talent imitates," said TS Eliot, "but genius steals".
Ning, grow up. Get real.
