I have a Wii and I can't get multiplayer mode to activate on marvel ultimate alliance or Cars.. How do they activate?

Inappropriate?Does the second controller show up in Wii Remote status screen? (push home and click on Remote settings, near the bottom)
I’m challenged by this question.

Inappropriate?It does until the game is started then it deactivates the second remote and will not recognize it while the game is on.
