Nokia N95 crashes/restarts when using certain features
Hi all,
I'm writing to report a problem with my Nokia N95, namely that it crashes and restarts when doing certain things. I'm describing the problem in case other N95 users are having the same symptoms. In my case, I just got the phone back from Nokia techs and I am testing it to see if it really got repaired.
The phone crashes and restarts when:
- using the VoIP function to make/receive internet calls (very frequently)
- watching videos on YouTube on the phone (always)
- listening to Internet Radio (sometimes)
- being on a video call (always)
- filming a video (always).
The crashes happen entirely at random. For example, when on a VoIP call, sometimes it will crash 1 minute into the call, sometimes 10 minutes later. Same with video calls.
Filming will always crash after about 1 minute of shooting, sometimes around 55 seconds or so. Filming is the only function that can reliably reproduce this crashing problem, as it does it every single time!
On discussing this with Dustin, a Nokia employee participating in these forums, he seemed to think it has something to do with streaming.
Perhaps Dustin or someone else could expand on this. If it's audio or video streaming over the internet, it would explain everything except for filming which doesn't have anything to do with network data. Or is it video/audio streaming in general? In which case, would it sound more like a hardware than a software problem?
I will be testing my (allegedly) newly repaired phone to see if it has indeed been fixed.
I have no reason to doubt Nokia when they mention in their letter that they have identified and repaired the problem, but it does make me suspicious to read that 'in addition, we have installed the latest O2 approved manufacturer's software which corrects any known faults in the original software"... The phone came back with firmware v21, which is the same one as it had before, so... does this mean they didn't even bother checking before they wrote the letter, but all they did was a re-flash and call it a repair?
I guess i'll find out soon!

Inappropriate?Following up on my post, I have to report that my phone has not been repaired, which sheds a rather unreliable light on Nokia's tech guys, or at least to this company called 'Anovo UK Repairs', whom Nokia contract out to repair their phones.
I tried watching videos on YouTube last night, the phone crashed every time. Also tried filming, crashed after 22 seconds only. Did they think they had to *improve* the crashing time? LOL
As O2 is having 3G data outage, I haven't been able to test the problems related to 3G data transfer/streaming, although the WiFi tests do seem conclusive... -
Inappropriate?Further testing leads me to believe that the phone begins crashing when it goes warmer than it probably should be.
Last night I was at a friend's house and had the VoIP over WiFi switched on all the time on standby. At one point, I grabbed the phone to use it to test my friend's new WiFi router, and it was quite warm (not very hot, but distinctly warmer than usual), then as soon as I started pressing buttons the phone crashed immediately. After that, it just wouldn't start again, it kept showing the NOKIA logo on screen. I removed the battery to turn it off and kept it off for about half an hour till it cooled down, then as if nothing had happened, it turned back on just fine.
To Dustin and other Nokia employees who are kindly monitoring and providing helpful feedback in these forums: Do you think my theory is valid, that when using certain cpu-intensive functions the phone may be getting too warm (at least on the interior) and shutting down/crashing for this reason?
I will be handing it over to O2 (again) today, so I would like to present them with something more solid to work on this time. -
This reply was removed on 10/06/08.

Inappropriate?Hi Dustin,
thank you for the clarification.
I don't pretend to know very much about the workings of cellphones or even to fully understand these streaming issues, but seeing your point about streaming as a general function the phone performs on all these occasions... couldn't we expand it even further and say that even on a normal phone call (GSM), the handset is streaming audio from the network so we should expect it to freeze on normal calls as well?
Or standard calls don't reach into what you mean by streaming?
Thanks for the hint, I will take the phone to the O2 (network) shop Monday and I will specifically ask them to tag it as you said.
Last time they put down 'Software fault' in the 'Fault' field, but they did write down a concise description like 'handset crashes in video calls, internet phone, etc' on the 'Fault description' field.
I'm guessing the Nokia repair guys only cared about the 'Fault' field, ignoring the description?
Oh, and I've emailed you at the address you provided as requested :-) -
Inappropriate?Got your Email and sent you one back.
Phone calls do essentially stream, but they have their own hardware handling most of the work. -
Inappropriate?I've started to experience the similar issues in terms of the phone crashing and then restarting! In my case it occurs whilst using the camera, which isn't to say it won't occur when using the other applications but I'm not in a position to truly test them. After using the camera for 20 seconds or so in its video version the screen simply goes blank and reboots to the main screen!
Have you had any luck with the answer? Is is hardware or software?
I'd really appreciate any help
Thanks,
Arun -
Try flashing first using NSU before having repair look at it. It's amazing how many issues we are correcting with a simple software flash. Back-up using PC Suite or to your Memory Card (I strongly suggest PC Suite as we can be selective with the data we restore). Update the software using NSU (Even if you have the current version, reflash it). After the update is complete try using the camera. If it works, try restoring your back up then use the camera again. If it stops working after the restore from back-up something is wrong with your data.
I've been using an N95-1 for almost two years without issue so I really feel these are one off issues. My gut tells me it's hardware, but without the device in hand I can't rule out software. -
Inappropriate?Thanks Dustin.
I don't have a head for technical acronyms. Could you please expand on "flashing first using NSU"? Does that translate to visiting the Nokia website and updating the various pieces of software? Any ones specifically? I did download all the updates a couple of months ago, which coincidentally would be the point from when I first started to experience issues with the video. But you’re suggesting that I reload the updates?
I'm not worried about back up since I don't have a great deal stored on it.
Thanks again for all your help.
Arun -
Sorry Arun,
NSU stands for Nokia Software Updater. You can download it here: http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163. It will update your device to the latest version of software or allow you to re-install.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Inappropriate?To Arun:
My N95 is now for the second time with the Nokia repair guys, we'll see how it goes this time.
With regards to software testing, it's a good idea to do it before you part with your phone to send it to repair.
As Dustin said, you need to run the Nokia Software Updater program that comes with the phone in a CD, and let it update your phone again. Perhaps it's a good idea to make separate back-ups of your memory, messages, contacts etc before that.
After that, test it. If it works OK, then start restoring your back-ups one by one. After each restore, check to see whether it still works.
Then start installing your applications again one by one (if you had any installed). Again test after each application install to see if it still works.
This way you may find the culprit.
That said, I re-flashed my phone several times, and tried to film immediately after reflashing (i.e. with the phone in factory condition), and it still froze, so no software problem for me :-(
To Dustin:
I too know several people with N95s who do not have these problems (or any problem at all, for that matter). The problem is, all of them are not heavy users of the phone's features. They use it almost exclusively for voice calls. If this is the typical behaviour seen by a big percentage (the majority perhaps?) of N95 users, then this kind of freezing problem may be more prevalent than we think but it doesn't show perhaps simply because most people don't use the functions that cause the problem to appear.
But still, if you have never heard of this before, then me and now Arun we *are* an unlucky bunch!! -
Counting the two of you I now know of 5 users with this issue. So you're not alone. I don't think it's because you are a power user either. I think you hit the nail on the head, it's luck.
Have we heard anything about your phone coming back from repair yet? Keep me posted. -
Last time I gave it for repair, it took 3 working days, but all they did then was to re-flash it.
Today was the 3rd working day since I took it for repair again. I phoned the O2 shop and they said it wasn't back yet. They will phone me when it comes in.
I'm just a bit worried because O2 has a bad reputation with repairs, with phones getting delayed or lost and replacements being out of stock and untraceable. Hope my transaction will be more straightforward.
Regarding your comment about now knowing of 5 users with this problem... do you have any information on the other 3? And is this going to trigger Nokia to investigate the problem on a wider scale? Or does it take more incidents for this to take place? Of course you are already being an immense help with looking into this and we are grateful! -
I can't really comment on the level of investigation, but I can say that I am not taking it lightly. -
Inappropriate?Unfortunately re-installing the software didn't solve the issue. The camera blanked out again after 20 seconds of footage. It's a shame since one of the major reasons for buying the phone was the camera. I'll take it into a service centre, but that has its own complications since I'm on holiday in India at the moment and bought the phone in New Zealand! The timing could not be worse since the one year warranty expires around now...might have been the other day actually!
-
I have a question that I failed to ask even DonDino. Has it always done this or did it just start happening. -
It has always done that, ever since July when I bought it.
The thing is I didn't use much of the aforementioned features at first, I started using them gradually, so in the beginning I thought it was normal to crash every now and then, but eventually when I saw that it crashed consistently when using these features I realised there was something wrong.
I also went on holiday in the meantime, so that's another reason why I didn't take it for repair or seriously looked up the problem on the internet any sooner. -
Inappropriate? In my case I've only only noticed the fault over the last couple of months. I was on holiday last year around this time (just after I had bought the phone) and took numerous videos and photos. There were no issues at that point.
-
Inappropriate?I phoned the O2 Shop yesterday and they told me that my phone has been marked for replacement, but that the replacement had not arrived at the shop yet, and that it shouldn't be too long.
If I don't hear anything by Monday, I'll phone Nokia Customer Support and see if they can dig out some information about it and perhaps speed it up, as by Monday it will already have been two weeks since I took the phone to them for repair. -
Inappropriate?I have the same problem, i.e. crashing of the phone, rebooting multiple times, freeze at boot with Nokia page on. Actually I had my first N95 in April, had two repair cycles and got a replacement N95 in June, which shows the same behaviour. Also the phone freezes when receiving an SMS while carrying out a normal phone conversation. My personal assumption is that it behaves particularly bad in a warm environment. Also the telephone is getting warmer itself when it freezes. So I also expect a temperature problem. Since it is the second in a row showing this error I assume that it is either a software glich or a hardware design error. The error is easy to reproduce in camera mode, which certainly consumes a lot of power. My phone is is auto dual mode (GMS and 3G). Any solutions so far?
-
Frank,
Where are you located (Country only)?
Best regards,
Dustin -
I'd like to emphasize Frank's remark about temperature, as I mentioned it as well in a previous post (not sure if on this thread or a different one).
I too noticed that the phone was warmer than normal just before every time it crashed. More over, it seemed to take a lot longer to recover from the crash (i.e. successfully reboot) when I was indoors in a warm or heated environment, rather than when I was outdoors. When I was out and about, here in (usually) cold Manchester, England, it used to reboot quickly, but inside a centrally heated house, I would need to leave it switched off for at least 15-20 minutes before trying again. -
I am located in Germany. -
Inappropriate?Hey guys, m from India n me too having exactly the same problem with N95.
I had purchased this handset in first week of october 2007, with firmware ver12. It was perfectly fine since it had no such problems. I have even taken hundreds of photos and hours of videos without any restart problem.
The problem started coming when i updated the firmware recently to ver 20 online. And since then the phone (specifically using the camera) has been a nightmare.
Since it was still under warrenty, i took it to the nokia care centre. Initally they said its s/w problem so they flashed my handset with latest firmware ver 21 and returned it back to me. But this did not solve the problem. So i took it back to them next day. They said they would send it to HQ for repair and after 3 weeks of wait, they gave me a replacement for the handset. The handset is brand new with latest firmware i.e ver 21, but has the same restart problem and moreover my warranty is also over. They did not give me any extended warranty on this replaced handset.
I really think its the firmware problem n i really don't know what to do now since my warranty is over.
Had googled on this topic and found out that many N95 users are facing the same problem n some of the threads say that this is due to some bug in the dll file of the accelerometer application in the latest firmware.
If any of u guys have come up with a solution do let me know, I would be obliged. -
Inappropriate?Guys, some ppl have found out a solution to tis, don't have the guts n equipments to do tis, but u guys can try.... chk the following link...
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showt... -
Don't try to do this yourself. The guys you see on that board are repair techs with proper equipment and documentation from Nokia. -
Inappropriate?I'm experiencing the same problem with my N95-1. Almost 100% reproducible when using camera (video or still) also when using GPS functions. Occurs more sporadically when using internet and Wi-Fi features, but I even had it restart while copying my contacts from SIM to the phone memory today. It's just returned from the Nokia Care Centre where they reflashed it with the most recent software, however the problem still persists.
-
Hi Byron,
this is most definitely not a software problem and Nokia repair centres should not be given instructions that it is such, as they will only reflash it and think it's been repaired.
The second time I took mine in for a repair, the shop clerk marked the fault as 'No Power', and desribed it in more detail, and they said they would replace the phone (I'm still waiting for it...). -
Inappropriate?Well hello guys, I have the same problem.. so, as far as I can see we have a serial error.. The same situations and same applications leading to restart. I have also checked some other sites..the solution would be of hardware nature, usually the temperature itself. The solution is really simple, you just need to me a tech maniac, to have all equipment, and that is it-problem solved. But I am none of those, and I can still see a lot of NOKIA intro screens (I hate them, by the way)
-
GRBO, are you using an N95-1 as well? -
Inappropriate?Hi DonDIno,
Yes I am, as a matter a fact. And the point is that it has been to service twice until now, and they still can't do anything about it. And I can' t replace it since the warranty has expired. So there I am - stuck with phone that doesn't work appropriately, and with no solution to the problem what so ever (as you are guys). I went through different forums, just to find out that problem is most probably of the hardware nature, that I can not deal with. The only software solution that I've seen is to reinstall firmware 11.. but as far as I know (and I've read) phone won't allow this. Any new ideas? -
Hi Grbo,
Dustin would be more qualified to answer this, as he is our helpful resident Nokia employee in this forum. Let's wait to hear if he has any suggestion.
However as you mention yourself, with the phone out of warranty, I am not sure how Nokia would act on it. You said it has been out for service twice... Was it Nokia engineers that looked at it or independent technicians? Perhaps you can give it to a Nokia repair point along with the repair instructions linked above in Asit's reply. -
Grbo,
Flashing back to 11.x is not an option. I am working to find out why so many of you are having issues getting these units repaired properly. I mentioned to DonDino that we can fix a lot with software, but your issue isn't. I feel like part of the issue is getting the right info to the repair center. Making sure that specific info about the issue like it reboots when I use this feature, or when it is warm are very important. If the collection point simply puts software update on the device like they did with DonDino's phone, that is exactly what will happen.
Those of you who have posted here have provided very valuable info. You all have the same issue that occurs in the same fashion with the same variables. Even if I can't duplicate it, it doesn't matter, I have several users who can.
We're working on this diligently. One question I have for you today is, have you called the Nokia Customer Contact Center in your country? There should be someone there who can take your complaint concerning the events that you have described. This should be something that each of you who are in the situation that you sent it in for repair while you were in warranty, it didn't get fixed and you are now out of warranty should do.
I appreciate all of you for your help and insight.
Br,

Hi Dustin,
the reason I have not contacted Nokia Support Center so far is that I was led to believe I can only deal with O2 directly and not Nokia. The first thing I did was walk into a Nokia Shop, where the assistant there told me that since I had bought the phone from O2 on a contract, Nokia could not help me, and that only O2 could deal with it. Should I happen to speak to a Nokia representative soon, I will mention this and get a clear picture of what the truth really is - and if I find out the Nokia Shop assistant was wrong to tell me that, I'm going back there to call him on it! -
Inappropriate?just bought a second hand n95 8g and it keeps crashing. Could it be something in my old simcard? that is giving problems or some aplication trying to access wfi in the background(email etc)
Pls keep posting maybe we find a solution. XX -
Completely different hardware. Is it an N95-2 or N95-4? What software version? -
Inappropriate?Hi guys,
Me again... Since we cant figure out whats wrong I tried to go through some other forums in order to find some actual answers...but no such luck. Some people suggested that the issue can be resolved with formatting the memory card. Tried it.. no effect. Other suggested to reinstall firmware .. did it for the third time .. and nothing happened. Some people suggested to fix the battery with a peace of paper (seemed like a stupid idea ) -tried it and ..now I have 1 minute of recording video before it crashes (which is quite good for my phone, since it was 10 secs before). Silly ..
I also tried to contact Nokia center in my country (actually service center),as Dustin suggested. They told me to bring the phone to them. The only problem is that the nearest one is 120 km away, like I have wings or something.
Also, regarding service, I went to the guy who owns the place and who worked in Nokia service before, and who lives in the same city as I do (on two occasions, within two weeks period, cause I had three problems - flash didn't work and microphone worked badly, and of course - restarts). He fixed first two, and explained that I should wait for the new firmware that was supposed to be released in few days.
As far as I can see, Dustin can be the only person who can deal with this. Thanks for your support anyway!

N95-2 uses different hardware. Can you open a new thread and provide info concerning what is causing your device to crash.
best regards,

Inappropriate?Ok, so I didn't have time to drop off my phone at the Nokia Care Centre again this weekend but I did notice the reboots have been increasing in frequency as it heats up here in Australia. Last week, for this first time the phone rebooted after a call and also occurred today while I was using it in the car.
-
Inappropriate?Hi guys,
Any news yet? I suppose not. When I come to think of it, it could be that my phone is now working better since it is getting really cold here in Hungary. So it could be that my previous post was not related to fixing battery correctly with a piece of paper, but with cold weather. I cant tell. Dustin, are there any news from Nokia regarding this matter. Do you have any idea? Thanks for all the answers in advance..

Grbo -
My official response at this time must be no comment. Just know that we are working the issues diligently. All of your inputs have been valuable so keep them coming. If there are any new visitors with similar issues please post here with the scenarios that you are seeing.
If you have an N95-2 or N95-4 I ask that you please open a new thread or add your info to any existing threads for the -2 and -4.
Thank you all for your patience.

Inappropriate?Hello everybody. My name is Luiz, and I am from Brazil. I got my N95 last week and am experiencing the same problems. Everytime I try to use a feature for a long time it crashes. The weather is hot here (about 30o celcius in the shade). I have realised that the problems get worse when it is hotter. One day it stayed in a hot enviroment and it turned off by itself altough I had just recharged it. It looked like it was broken, because it would not turn on. After I cooled it down puting it in front of an air conditioner exit it worked normally.
Also, the video recording feature would crash after 20 seconds. I just tried to record a video puting the N95 in front of a realy cold air conditioner exit and gess what? It did not crash!
I can still return my cell phone because of the conditions of my contract with the operator. I am seriouslly thinking about getting a diferent model. By the way this forum is going, I am going to take forever to get it fixed in Brasil since it appears to be a hardware problem
Best regards, Luiz -

Inappropriate?I took my cell phone to the nokia center in my city. After 15 days I got t back. They updated the software and the problem still persists. Today, it started crashing a lot after I used for a long time.
After I cooled it down in the air conditioner it stopped crashing. I have to take it back to Nokia again... I bet they are going to update the software again and it will come back with the same problem...
-
Hi Luiz,
when you take the phone back to Nokia, make sure to tell them it's NOT a software problem, but a 'No Power' problem. It seems Nokia techs only see the fault description and take a pre-determined action without actually checking and testing the phone before and after the repair.
If they see 'software problem' on the fault description passed to them by you or by the Nokia agent, they will just re-flash the firmware, so make sure they see a 'No power' fault instead. -

Inappropriate?Hey Guys,
I Finally got a handset with no problems at all.
I had actually submitted my handset to Nokia Care n after 15 days they handed me a new handset. This new handset had the same restart problem.
So I again went back and submittted it to nokia care. Again after 15days of long wait they handed me another brand new handset.
This handset seems to works perfectly fine without any restart problems. It even has the latest firmware 30.0.015.
Lucky me.. -
Inappropriate?Hi all,
I have finally received a new handset today. From the first look and touch it seems to be problem-free, although a few more days of testing will hopefully corroborate that.
A great big THANK YOU to Dustin for all his help and support, and to all of you who contributed valuable information.

Inappropriate?i still have all these mentioned problems with my nokia n95-1...and my warranty is over. So no luck in getting a new handset. with the old firmwares my n95 worked perfect till i upgraded to ver 20.... n onwards...i`m finally losing faith in nokia...will eventually shift to a pda like htc.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?To All I have the N595 8GB and I am from india...
I have been facing the restart problem since like last 2 months I have bought it in Jan .
And for me it works well if i am on call .. But it keeps restarting otherwise .. it would boot and immediately reboot .. so if I have to make a call I have wait till it boots and once it does immediately in a min would have to look up the number and dail...
But I just figured it out that if the phone is in offline mode it works fabulous... No rebooting or anything like that ...
So what the point having a Phone which cant be kept on general mode LOL...
Try it yourself if your phone works good in offline mode(not using the phone network) .. you can also use the wi-fi and all and it all works cool!!! -
Inappropriate?I also have a N95-1 and have tried flashing and upgrading the firmware.
Currently the firmware is v30 but I still have the same problems of N95 crashing while recording video.
It seems a hardware issue and even after so many firmware update from V11 to V30 it still behave the same.
Any advise or need to send for replacement. -
Hi Jog,
yes it needs to go for replacement as we've established that it's a fault that cannot be repaired. When you take it in or send it to Nokia, make sure you mark it as a 'No Power' fault. If you do not and they think it's a software fault, they will just re-flash it and send it back to you.

Inappropriate?I have the same problems. My phone will freeze after it warms up. It will do it in voice over ip internet radio or n-gage. It can take from 10 min when the slide is closed up to 25 min if the slide is open. After the first restart this will start to happen more often if you keep on using any of those applications. Software update its not helping i tried many times. Now the phone has only one application internet radio and the phone will do it again. I am sending it for repair in 2 days i hope i get it fixed . I had many nokia phone before and never had a problem like this. It's really unpleasant when you pay so much money for a phone and then it seems to be so faulty. Other companies like RIM (blackberry or Apple I phone ) after you re flash the phone and you have the same problem they will just send you replacement and you send them back the faulty device. I guess this is not the case with Nokia. I will think twice next time i am buying a smart phone. Ironic on the n95 box there is a logo saying nokia care . I wonder what they care for ?
-
Inappropriate?To all:
I had this problem with two N95 phones in a row. Then I found a confidential application note stating that the phone has a hardware stability fault which can be solved by adding two capacitors to the micro. This apps note has level 4 status which means that a "normal" phone dealer even one with a repair shop does not know the note - at least my dealer was suprised when i showed it to him. So I copied the apps note and sent it - together with my phone - to a Nokia repair shop with level 4 status. I received a new phone after two weeks and never had the error again. Don't go for a software update - it does not solve the problem.
Best regards,

Inappropriate? My name is Luiz, and I have posted a message here before... My phone returned 3 times from the nokia service repair center without being fixed. The 3 times they just flashed the firmware and it came back the same. The 4o time I called the Nokia Support Center and I sent it there. After 30 days they told me it couldnt be fixed and they sent me a new one that took 20 days to get here. Overall, they took 5 months to get me a phone that worked. Now, my new phone is working properly.
If you phone comes back from the repair center with the same problem, dont bother doing it again, cause they cant do anything for you. Contact the costumer service to see if they solve it for you. If they dont... I found out that in Brasil (where I live) It is faster to go to court over it, because there is a fast sistem for small suits (you dont even need a laywer) anf in less than a month, they make nokia give you a working phone (if the warranty is OK) -
Inappropriate? My name is Luiz, and I have posted a message here before... My phone returned 3 times from the nokia service repair center without being fixed. The 3 times they just flashed the firmware and it came back the same. The 4o time I called the Nokia Support Center and I sent it there. After 30 days they told me it couldnt be fixed and they sent me a new one that took 20 days to get here. Overall, they took 5 months to get me a phone that worked. Now, my new phone is working properly.

Inappropriate? The phone came back from warranty . Nokia didn't repair it . Their explanation was that there is software installed on the phone that was not Nokia approved. After some conversations with Nokia they said that there is noting that they can do about it . Even do i was told by a nokia representative to update my firmware that was their magical fix . Bottom line after the update now i have no warranty. They now that it is not the software that causes the problem but they hide behind the police and refuse to do any work on the phone. They didn't even give me a quoit how much it will cost to get the phone fix. Eventually i spoke with a manager in nokia customer service and he told me that it was Rogers fault that they are not willing to fix my phone. That was really strange again he said that Rogers hasn't release a new firmware update. Nokia customer service manager said if that firmware was branded by rogers he will fix my phone. Well i called rogers and told them what nokia said and the rogers technical support told me that it is not rogers job to release firmware updates for nokia .He said that nokia has to relase firmware updates. It seems like nokia is just ignoring the market in canada and they have no desire to release an firmware update for rogers.
On the end of the day nobody wants to do anything about my problem . Nokia doesn't care about their customers . And they don't want to do any repair. Nokia will cheat you with the warranty if you have a problem. -
Both sides are right. BUT I had the same problem. I sent the phone back(branded Vodafone) with guarrantee 3 times, every time they said that it's repaired, but it wasn't. This is because the problem appears on higher temperatures.(when they test it, it's freshly started, so it's not "HOT".
After that, I decided to update my firmware (they did it, but didn't put in the latest). Voda has v30 fw to update, but it didn't solve the problem, so I changed my serial number and updated with the unbraded v31 soft. It solved the problem, altough i lost my guarrantee (because I changed the serial, not the IMEI).
Maybe you should try that too.. Good luck! -
Inappropriate?Hi All,
This is a Hardware problem and not a software problem. There is an on board IC chip in Nokia N95, which is pretty vulnerable to getting heated up, and causing the restart. If you were to use the phone in a almost very chilled room, or right in front of an Air Conditioner, it will not restart. This heating can because of a big or complex program like Fring or , say VOIP being run. Nokie offers some temporary solutions too, but having said that, they are just temporary. My advise is don't wait for any S/W upgrade cos that ain't gonna fix it. Just Re-Sell this phone. This phone was a total failure and recalling it, would have costed Nokia a fortune, so they just discontinued it from the list.
Nothing can be done.....Hope it helps a lot of u out there, hoping there Nokia N95 will be normal again.. -
Hi mate,
as mentioned previously, with the help of a Nokia engineer we've concluded this is a hardware problem that seems to have affected a very small batch of phones. The solution is to send it back for repair mentioning it's a power fault, and Nokia will replace it immediately.
That's what I did, and the N95 I have now is faultless and works perfectly even with VoIP and video streaming running all the time.
The N95 was Nokia's best phone until the N97 came along, and it's one of the best phones ever. This problem only affected a very small number of phones sold, and a replacement makes the problem go away. The N95 is far from being any kind of 'total failure' as you claim.
