Finale Printmusic trial download - edit problems

If I delete a note, it replaces the value with a rest instead of closing up the gap ( the help menu says it will move all the following notes to the left). Also, it won't let me insert a new note. Sometimes it will let me change the value (length) of a note but I then have to change the measures time signature to the current time signature to get it to rearrange the bars on the following measures.

Any ideas?
