I find this problematic with MoneyWell, since everything foes into buckets, I quickly end up having a very long list of buckets. This makes it hard to utilize the visual feedback of the buckets (empty, full etc) and also means I have to continously scroll down to see them all.
What if the buckets were collapsible, and you could have sub-buckets inside one larger category?
This way, you can still create spending plans for individual buckets, like "gas", "repairs", "toll road charges" etc. But you can also choose to collapse them into the overall "Auto Expenses" for a cleaner view.
One example:
Auto Expenses:
- - Auto Insurance
- - Auto Finance
- - Gas
- - Toll Road and Parking
- - Repairs and Maintenance
Of course, I can just create one large bucket for Auto Expenses, but then I lose the details, and I like having access to details. Besides, I may want to take different actions and priorities for each item. E.g. Auto Finance is typically a priority 1, while Gas may be only a 3. (If I'm out of money, I want to at least pay the lending company, and try to use less gas that month.)
