Why do O2 refuse to unlock your iPhone when you come to the end of your contract?
I would like to know why O2 won't unlock your iPhone (even for a charge) when you come to the end of your contract.
Many European operators offer this service, (they send your IMEI number to Apple, then when you next connect your iPhone to iTunes, you are sent a carrier update that unlocks the iPhone), so why doesn't O2?

Inappropriate?O2 do not hold the codes, in fact, Apple has the overall say after authorities.
In fact, OFCOM believe that having mobile phones locked to providers "give better competition" on the market
I’m angry

Inappropriate?just unlock your phone yourself..?

Inappropriate? With Orange now offering the iPhone in the UK by the end of the year, surely O2 will allow you to unlock at the end of your contract.

I wouldn't be so sure... -
Inappropriate?I've tried to get Apple Customer Care to admit that Orange are even mentioning that they will have the iPhone.
This from 2 days ago:
"As with any new product launch, the details are kept entirely confidential and Apple Store Staff are not made aware of this until launch day".
Strange that I have emails etc from Orange trumpeting the iPhone on their network. Maybe Apple employees are kept in the dark and fed bs - or is that O2 customers who want to unlock.
Then this on unlocking at the end of an O2 contract:
"Apple does not provide the service of 'unlocking' iPhones".
Oh deep joy!
I’m confused

Inappropriate?apple may not do it themselves, but iPhones certainly can be unlocked. apple even provide a handy list of who and where: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937
