Inappropriate?Tape is becoming increasingly less appropriate for use as an archival medium in creative industries.
If you feel you must then data can be pulled out of MatrixStore and put onto the SAN from where the customer has a choice to put the data where they want it.
Data sat on a tape or DVD is not compatible with an online archiving strategy. -
Inappropriate?Tape can still be a wish or even a requirement in some circumstances. When you can use tape as a deep archive with a tape robot mechanisism for automated retrieval of data on a particular tape, then tape can be used for data which will not be retreived for a long time. In these situations tape does require less power than disks. Of course retrieval time will be longer.

Inappropriate?Hi Frits,
We agree, there is nothing to stop companies having MatrixStore and tape/optical solutions in the their workflow.
MatrixStore can be used as a highly secure nearline or deep archive. It is down the the customer to decide what data they can afford to keep offline.
Thanks
OM.
I’m happy
