Mac Pro`s as nodes
Would this configuration work ok?
- 3 Mac Pro MA970LL / A - INTEL®QUAD CORE XEON (octo)
- 3 Highpoint Controller Rocket RAID 2320 8-port Controller
- 3 MaxConnect SATA/SAS Link for Mac Pro ( http://www.maxupgrades.com )
- 3 MaxConnect Optical bay Assembly ( http://www.maxupgrades.com )
- 7 1TB SATA drives in each Mac Pro with RAID 5 (totalling 6TB in each).
And in the future, after creating a Vault for this drives (7 in each mac pro), if I want to add a external storage's, lets say 3 Promise Vtrak with a fiber channel card in each mac pro. Can I create another Vault and leave the first one (with the 7 discs inside the mac pros) intact and working as a Vault "together" with the new one (Vtrak)?
Thanks

Inappropriate?Hi,
Regarding the first question:
MatrixStore runs on any hardware supported by MacOS X so if that extra hardware is supported by MacOS X, the answer is yes. Although that configuration is not officially supported, it provides proper cpu and storage capabilities to perform as nodes.
The only requirement is that the OS and the disk volumes must be properly installed and configured before installing MatrixStore.
For the second question, currently, you cannot add a second volume on the fly into a node. You can have 2 volumes on a node but they must be present at the moment of MatrixStore installation.
However, there is a workarond that limitation if you are sure there is remaining capacity in the cluster for a node going down. You could remove from the cluster the node you want to expand, uninstall Matrixstore, prepare the second volume, install MatrixStore and attach it as a new node.
Another thing to bear in mind is that in one year's time, we'll probably support expanding a node on the fly by adding new volumes :-)
