Making a link translate to Linkedin, Twitter, etc.

I tried to create a link to an article I recently read. The link does not transfer correctly. On Linkedin and Twitter, it is reduces to bit.ly, but does not reduce correctly...only part of the link is active and it goes to the wrong place....

I like to link! Is there a way to add links so this does not happen? Please help!
