How are you making the web more open?
This "getsatisfaction" site is an excellent example of a good service that still feels a bit closed. For example, how does it integrate into my Facebook, MySpace, and e-mail accounts? Is the goal of an open web to allow me to retain ownership of my communications to the outside world such that this sort of integration will be possible?
Are you defining a set of "next steps" for us to take together and giving public praise or scorn on efforts such as OpenSocial?

Inappropriate? We wouldn't necessarily be able to mandate or force different organizations do anything, but we could facilitate a conversation and provide guidance and leadership on how to structure a system in order to provide maximum flexibility to customers.
In the case of Satisfaction, they do let you sign in with your existing accounts or use an OpenID, which is certainly a step in the right direction. They also support OAuth for the API, which means that you can provide access to third-parties to your Satisfaction account. That still means that Satisfaction is a data broker for you, but if you were able to build an app, it means that you could export your data and "take it with you" (if that's what you wanted to do).
Our core offerings, over time, will be a set of legal documents that enable community efforts to develop technology that can be developed that anyone can use, from small to large companies. While we can't necessarily solve the problem of submarine patents, we can at least enable a legal framework that encourages understanding amongst the contributors that their work will be licensed in such a way so as to enable uninhibited, web-wide usage.
This may sound abstract, but comes directly from our experiences with OpenID and OAuth -- and getting large companies on board with adopting these technologies.

Inappropriate? It does sound a bit abstract, but I look forward to your core offering of legal documents to act as guidelines for community efforts to enable uninhibited data usage. As a maintainer of a small community website looking to integrate more social features, I'm still hopeful you'll foster some communications on the best *functional* ways to keep content open. With all of the "Open"(TM) technologies out there, it is difficult to make positive decisions without doing more analysis than I can afford.
I’m thankful

Can you give me some specific examples of areas where you'd like to see more guidance? Are there specific issues that you can identify?
