I have Opera 9.62. Hotmail worked fine until Microsoft updated my Windows Live Hotmail. Now I can see but can't open or delete. I think it has something to do with script. -
Inappropriate?Hotmail controversy
In November 2004, the Opera Software company sent an electronic message to Microsoft, complaining that Opera users were sent an incomplete JavaScript file when using Hotmail. The incomplete file prevented Opera users from emptying their "Junk E-mail" folders. The Opera Software company later sent a physical letter to Microsoft. Nevertheless, as of February 11, 2005, Microsoft had neither replied to the messages nor corrected the issue

Inappropriate?I have been unable to use Windows Live Hotmail at all on the opera 6.2 browser. It seems to have something to do with the Hotmail ads - my inbox opens, and I actually to get a glimpse for several seconds at my list of emails, but once the banner ad at the top of the screen appears, my list of messages blanks out. The borders are still there, and the ads are still there, but all my email info vanishes leaving most of the screen blank. Wierd.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I had the same problem with opera 9.61. Updating to version 9.62 was the solution.
I’m very happy

Inappropriate?Opera 9.63 is the current version
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/...
You also can mask as Firefox with the current Browser JavaScript
http://www.opera.com/docs/browserjs/
as of today for me
Current browser.js status: enabled.
Target version and time stamp of the active browser.js file is Opera 9.60, Desktop, January 6, 2009 .
I’m using hotmail with very little problems and on a non windows machine :)

Inappropriate?Hi! I'm brand new to Opera. I downloaded Opera 10 about a week ago and have been trying to get used to it. So far, Opera 10 has not presented me with any problems, and the SPEED is "lightning quick". I have an older computer (Windows 2000) and while Internet Explorer and Firefox (I'm trying Firefox for the first time, too) take a few seconds to load, Opera loads in the blink of an eye, and is truly amazing!!!
OK...now for my question about Hotmail. Is Opera 10 actually supposed to work efficiently in Hotmail? I really want to know this answer.
This is what happens to me: When I sign in to Hotmail, every time I do, Hotmail makes me sign the password "twice", telling me the first time that it had been incorrect! Then Hotmail allows me to the next page, which tells me to "get a better browser for Hotmail...use Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari"! There is also a place on that page that allows me to continue if I so desire, so I have to check that link each time. THEN, I am finally in my Hotmail account! I think I can pretty much do anything I want in Hotmail...EXCEPT when trying to type a new email, "I CAN'T GET THE CURSOR TO MOVE DOWN TO THE CONTENT AREA"!!! Therefore, I am not allowed to send emails. I can type in the "TO" address and also the "SUBJECT" address...but the cursor disappears when I try the CONTENT area!
An answer will be deep appreciated! -
Inappropriate?Microsoft is not liking other browser it does allo, you can get around the browser page in Opera you can right click on the page and select edit site preferences. Under the network tab there is a Browser identification with arrows you can click. In the menu you can set to mask as Firefox for the hotmail page
Browser JavaScript Explained
Browser JavaScript is a feature that allows Opera to automatically fix incompatible Web pages, out of date scripts, and pages that inadvertently block Opera. The script file is automatically distributed by Opera Software ASA, and can be used to apply fixes to specific Web sites, and specific scripts.
http://www.opera.com/docs/browserjs/
for me I get:
Current browser.js status: enabled.
Target version and time stamp of the active browser.js file is Opera 9.60, Desktop, January 15, 2009 .
Opera 9.63 is the stable and Opera 10 alpha is the test version
I’m using hotmail without problems

Inappropriate?To Chas4...
I know Opera 10 alpha is the test version, but I wanted it. Anyway, I had read that if I came upon a site that didn't "want" Opera, an Opera pop-up would appear, giving me the option to make Opera something else...but the box did not appear.
Ok...I did what you told me to do, BUT NOW I HAVE A "NEW" PROBLEM:
After I changed the browser identification and tried to enter Hotmail, Hotmail told me that I have cookies disabled! I do NOT have cookies disabled. (I'm actually using Firefox right now to type this response.) In fact, Opera shows that Hotmail is on my list of approved sites. I then decided to change the fake browser back to Opera in hopes of Hotmail at least allowing me to get back into it, but it still said I had cookies disabled.
So...now I can't even get into Hotmail with Opera. How do I fix this problem? -
Inappropriate?try deleteing the cookie for hotmail in the cookie tab in the edit site preferences and try it again

Inappropriate?To Chas4...
I spent all this time since your last post in trying to do what you told me, but it wouldn't work. Finally, I rebooted and hoped that would make a difference but no such luck. I was willing to almost try anything...SO I decided to also unblock pop-ups, and so I changed it to "OPEN ALL POP-UPS". After I did this, I was not only able to get into my Hotmail account again, but, yes, it now works correctly by allowing me to work in the content/context area for the first time!
From now on, I guess I'll need to also "Open All Pop-ups" when going to Hotmail, but I don't know what "pop-ups" have to do with accessing Hotmail! Perhaps you know the answer to that?!
OK, now when I leave Hotmail, I'm going to want to reinstate the blocking of pop-ups...I just don't remember whether the default said to "block all popups" or "block unwanted popups"! I've been good about taking notes on what I change, but I didn't notice this time!
Finally...THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR HELPING ME!
P.S. I know "newbies" are not supposed to start new browsers in their alpha condition, but I had been wanting to begin Opera for a long time and for some reason just couldn't do it. Then when I read about Opera 10 Alpha, I knew I had to try it, and I'm so very glad I did! Of note is that I recently discovered a new Search Engine called "Ixquick" (they delete your searches after 48 hours; whereas Google and others "keep" your searches. AND...since Opera has Google "set" as the search engine for the Speed Dials, I don't intend to use the Speed Dials, at least not for now.) -
Inappropriate?Opera also uses browser js to fix the hotmail page http://www.opera.com/docs/browserjs/
Current browser.js status: enabled.
Target version and time stamp of the active browser.js file is Opera 9.60, Desktop, March 20, 2009 .
I am currently using hotmail in 9.64 and it works fine -

Inappropriate?I'm having problems registering a new hotmail account using opera. So annoying. If ms made sure hotmail worked with all the 4 big browsers maybe they would have more success with hotmail over other free web based email providers. I was only trying to revive an old hotmail account, maybe I'll just let it die...
