Desktop Capture Tool - Some suggestions
Greg - I was looking at the screencast for your uploading tool and think it's done pretty well.
Just a thought - the URL field could be auto-populated if we are capturing a web page. And for the tags, it could fetch suggestions from del.icio.us if people have already saved that page on del.icio.us before.
Cheers & good luck.

Inappropriate?Hey Amit!
Thanks for the suggestions. Our firefox plugin is definitely going to support the auto-populating of the URL field however, it's difficult to support auto-populating with the desktop client. The software would have to make an assumption that the user has taken a screenshot of a website (which the software is not limited too) and hope that the current window for the default web browser is the URL that the user would like to populate. From my experience, this will be right some of the time and wrong some of the time. I would rather leave the choice to the user.
Interesting idea with the del.icio.us tag integration. Do you feel that you would tag the screenshot of the site the same way as you would on del.icio.us?
Very cool ideas though and we will definitely keep them in mind as we move forward. Thanks!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?About the delicious tag integration - not all users may want to use the same tags but it may be a good idea to use them for auto suggestions in a drop down.
Thanks.
I’m happy

Agreed. Thanks for the suggestion. -
Inappropriate?Have you considered an integration with Skitch? Rather than relying on a browser plug-in... most users of ScrnShots probably already have Skitch installed.
I’m Just sayin'

Yeah we've tried to contact Skitch multiple times now with no response. I have them slotted for another attempt on Monday and I hope to see if we can get something sorted out. We've definitely been hearing from the community that Skitch integration would be nice.
In the meantime, this Tuesday we'll be launching our desktop tools along with a basic version of our API (which includes uploading screenshots). -
i agree with Eric, skitch integration would be awesome!
i have some other questions / suggestions.
- is there a keyboard shortcut for making a screenshot?
- uploading without being asked for details (easy process if you're making a lot of screenshots for your work and want to keep/share them (secretly) with colleagues) uploading is been done in the background. grabup does that. i.e.
- private screenshots / password protected screenshots -
@assbach - "uploading without being asked for details" => i wrote a very quick applescript that takes care of this. I plan on posting a short screencast on my blog later today that shows you how to set up a folder action that uploads screenshots in the background. Also, I've used it to drag file directly from Skitch into my ScrnShots account.
As for private screenshots, we plan to be release that functionality with our next big release (probably about 3 - 4 weeks away). -
@Greg: oh that sounds very good to me. Thanks alot for adding me and for your quick response! -
Just wanted to let everyone know that I created a simple applescript folder action that will upload any screenshots put into it to your ScrnShots account.
Full tutorial at http://www.gregbelldesign.com/scrnsho... Works really well to drag screenshots from Skitch into your ScrnShots account. -
Inappropriate?I have another suggestion: add the ability to capture full/whole webpages as well as softwares like Paparazzi! or Web Snapper.
Thx,
Cary -
Inappropriate?Another suggestion would be to be able to 'SAVE' the screenshot on your local hard drive on a pre-selected folder
