Thumbnail cropping doesn't work well for large screenshots
I love Scrnshots, but the one thing keeping me from really using it is the thumbnail cropping. I tend to take screenshots of full web pages, which end up having tall/narrow dimensions. Everywhere else in Scrnshots you can see the whole image - either 1:1 or scaled, but the thumbnails have to crop the image to square. The problem is that on these big images, the cropping grabs the center of the website — almost always the least interesting part.
There should be an option for it to crop from the top. Or better yet, if you could just take a look at the dimensions and if it is a very tall image where a high percentage of the screenshot is going to be cropped, have the system make the assumption that it should be cropped from the top instead of the center — that way there is no extra burden on the user.
If you are just cropping off 5% from top and bottom it makes sense to grab from the center, but if you're cropping off 75% of the image, its a good bet that the 25% that would make the best screenshot is at the top.

Inappropriate?Hey jasford,
Thanks for the feedback.
I totally understand where you're coming from.
We actually used to automatically crop large images at the top, but we ran into problems now and then with there being nothing at the top of the page. Based on our own internal tests we found that there was almost always something in the middle, so we decided to crop the middle.
I'd actually like to hear about what others have to say about this. Does anyone else have the same or similar issues?
Ultimately user cropping is probably the best solution, but I don't see it happening in the next little while.
I’m wishing I had a better answer

Inappropriate?Users been able to crop would be much better, for example I just uploaded three new images and the small thumbnails don't look that good, which made me search the help lol, please add this function its needed :)
