Has there been a change with safari's search or is it possibly enjoying high load?
I am using firefox 3.0.1 on mac osx. I have noticed the following problems:
1. occasionally, when I click in the search text box, it doesnt realize that
the text box has gotten focus, so the "[Start a new search]" text doesnt go
away and it allows me to start editing it in the same grey text.
2. once in a while when I search for a book I have gotten no results on the
right hand (main results) part of the page even though results show up in the
tree section on the left.
3. searching within current book fails sometimes and works other times. For example, I
tried to search for the word "import" within Programming Python and in
the main section on the right there were no results- only the message:
"import AND ISBN = 0596009259"
and an advertisement suggesting I give safari a try. (even though I am already a
customer AND currently logged in)
All I can do is submit the search over and over and over again and eventually one of
those times it works.
On the MYSQL site, under each page of documentation they have a discussion section where people post their questions/answers/thoughts/suggestions. An example of this can be seen here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/e...
I think it could be great to see this same feature implemented on Safari and for those who have Registered their books. Obviously on Safari the user would see the page of the book and below that the discussion. The people who have just registered their books could have an index/page number and jump straight to the discussion part without seeing the actual book text.
Hopefully that explains it clear enough.
I know that this is not a new, or original, idea; but it is one I thought would be worth at least posting here.
I just purchased a Safari-enabled book (Information Dashboard Design) last week and it's being removed from Safari on Monday at O'Reilly's request. The book is only two years old, it's current on Amazon, and it's on shelves in numerous bookstores. I feel the claim on the book ("Free 45-day online edition") is deceptive.
I understand that every book can't be archived on Safari forever, but at a minimum the full-page Safari promo on the inside back cover should display an expiration date, so people know the "free 45-day" offer has passed. Anything less is deceptive advertising.
There is a two-year-old Drupal book by David Mercer available on Safari, but it is now out of date. I would like to read the updated book that was released in February this year. Is there any way to find out what the plans are?
