New release wanted for Head First EJB.
I consider my case to be really a problem to be solved although you may not have the same opinion. I bought the Head First EJB this year. it is completely out of date and deprecated in relation to the EJB spec. As so, it is completely useless for taking the SCBCD 1.5 (the Sun certification exam).
Still, I consider Head First to be the best exam driven preparation book available and as I can see in your site book ratings many other people have the same opinion as I do. So, the problem to be fixed imediatelly is to release a brand new edition of this book! I can not understand why the last available version dates of 2003. This is not comprehensible at all!

Hi Manoj,
Thanks for your feedback, but it will be more than a few months before this book is published. We're still looking for the right author and do not have an estimated release date yet.

Brian

Hi guys-
Boy, I'd love nothing more to tell you we're days - or even months - away from a new release. Unfortunately, we're not. Finding a great technical author for any subject that can learn and "speak" Head First is an enormous task... and EJB is harder to grasp than most topics, so the pool we have to draw from is pretty small in the first place.
We're still actively looking, and I'd love any of you out there swimming in EJB knowledge to drop me a line (auditions@headfirstlabs.com). But for now, we're still looking, and don't have a project in the works.
Thanks, and hopefully there'll be a different answer to this soon.

Hi pcresta-
Unfortunately, there's not a new release of Head First EJB planned. It's something we want - which is why Chris saw it in our internal databases - but not something we've been able to find authors for.
Because EJB 3.0 changed so drastically from EJB 2.0, it's not as much a revision as, in many respects, an entirely new book. And Bert Bates and Kathy Sierra have become too busy with several other projects (including the recently-released Head First Servlets, 2nd edition) to invest the time into a new edition of EJB.
All that said, we are actively looking for EJB authors, and it's a book that we'd like very much to sign. I know that's not a terribly exciting or encouraging answer, but I wanted to be up-front.
And anyone out there dying to get into the Head First family, EJB would be a great title to propose and audition for! Check out the Write For Us link at http://www.headfirstlabs.com.
Thanks

It looks like we do have a new edition of Head First EJB planned, but it's not scheduled to be released until the fall.

Inappropriate?Hi, I was also looking for this book.
When I saw HF JSP & Servlets 2nd Edition out there, I thought I could get my hands on HF EJB 2nd Edition as well.
I hope that Head First EJB 2nd Edition will be out soon !
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Do we have any update on by what time Head First EJB 2end edition will be released. I am waiting for the book, I don't want to study any other book for EJB 3.0.

Inappropriate? It's not in development yet, but we have an author team auditioning as we speak, so we're hoping to have something signed soon and moving for release in 2010.

Inappropriate?Hi. What about Cay Horstmann as author for it?! My introduction to Java was a main course in my first-year with Big Java as prescribed book. After completing my degree, I still believe that was the best textbook I've ever owned. His style also looks similar and he just knows exactly how to "transfer the knowledge". I'm sure he'll be familiar with EJB3 by now!
-
Inappropriate?Hi Derek,
Thanks for your recommendation. As mentioned in my previous response, we're actually working with an author team on an audition at the moment, but I'd certainly be interested in talking with Cay about possible involvement, if he's indeed interested.
Thanks for taking the time to write. It's always great to see our readers take an active interest in the development process for our books.
Thanks,

I was planning to take the SCBCD (EJB 3.0) this year; I'd rather wait a few months.
