Use promo for e-version of book
I have a promo code for iPhone 3G missing manual. How do I use it for the electronic version?
Also can you explain why you promote e-versions as a way to save a tree but make the price the same as the physical book [printing (ink and paper) binding (cover and glue) distribution (fleet, gas) sales management (bookstore who stock the book) inventory (physical space to store the books)]

What's the discount code you have for the book? If it's an O'Reilly code you should be able to enter it into the first page of the shopping cart process. Let us know what happens, and feel free to contact our customer service folks directly at 1-800-998-9938 / 707-827-7000 / order@oreilly.com.
As for pricing, average PPB (Print, Paper, Binding) and distribution make up ~26% of the cost of print books, so a 20% discount isn't that far off the mark. While there are savings associated with digital, we're also incurring extra costs. For example, our PDFs aren't just snapshots of our print books, but are bookmarked, searchable, and linked. You may have noticed that we're starting to offer books in an electronic bundle that includes .PDF, .epub and Kindle-compatible .mobi, all for the same cost. These formats offer customers more flexibility when it comes to how and where and on what devices they want to read our books on. These add steps and costs to our production process. The fact that customers have free access to any updated versions of the books they purchase, something that isn't possible in print, is also a significant upgrade. And lastly, O'Reilly books have traditionally cost less than competitor's books. To not gouge customers was a decision we made early on.
Added together, I hope the benefits justify the cost. I'd like to know if you agree.

The book I am looking at is the iPhone 3G Missing Manual. Its e-Version is listed at the same price as the print version. Should it be showing a 20% discount?
The Promo code I have is for previous owners of the iPhone Missing Manual. I won't post the code here so its not available to everyone, but that should give you the info you need for the promo code.
I would agree that the e-version is a huge benefit over printed versions and a reasonable discount makes sense. But having the same price as printed does not encourage the customer to go for the e-version. Especially when the bundle (printed plus e-version) price makes the e-version look as though it would be cheaper as the bundled version is only 7.50 more. I realize the bundling includes a discount on the e-version.

Got the e-version. It works well in the epub format and Stanza on the iPhone. A couple of formating issues but text and images look great.
The PDF version however looks terrible in Preview on the Mac OS 10.5. The font is washed out and jagged. This does not go away even when zoomed in several times. The jagged look of the font remains no matter how close you zoom it. This makes it very difficult to read. The screen shots in the PDF version also come across fuzzy. Also the websites do not link to the web but are just text. At least when viewed in Preview.
In Adobe the website links work and the text is more crisp. The images are still fuzzy though. I also had to download Adobe to test this out. Something I haven't used for over 2 years thanks to Preview.
Over all I like the e-version, but not in Preview. Other e-books like Take Control have always worked fine in Preview. The graphics also looked fuzzy in the PDF version.
