Images HTML emails off by default
Please don't display external images (and other external content) in emails unless explicitly enabled for a sender. E.g., the way gmail handles it. The point is to prevent senders from tracking readers of the message.

Inappropriate? One of the great things about OtherInbox is that you don't really need to care if they know if you read the message. If they use that information to send you too much email, then you can just block them. You don't need to be afraid of the spammers anymore!
That said, if enough people vote for this feature we can certainly make it an option! Thanks for the suggestion!

Inappropriate? This is an interesting concept of OtherInbox. Like Josh said, who cares if they tracked that you read it? I care about this kind of thing in my primary accounts because I don't want to be sent more email that I have to deal with.
If they see that I read an email that they sent to some_server@jotto.otherinbox.com and they then abuse it, I'll just shut off the tap. This actually makes the whole email market more efficient as services will start to see their customer's bounce emails when they screw up. So I argue that I have some incentive to let them know I read it so I can shut them off when they break our initial contact agreement.

Inappropriate?I don't follow your reasoning. If I could choose not to be tracked at the supermarket or when I buy online via credit card, I would. I still do shop because with my current knowledge its an ok trade off.
Moreover, how do you realize a sender abuses the tracking? By the time it becomes evident it may be too late.
And why would otherinbox be different from my primary email? The real spam won't succeed in tracking me, but all the gray area stuff that ends up at otherinbox, that's where my privacy concerns are. Every mail reader I have come across recently supports not showing external content.
Your current system makes things worse because it automatically renders the first message on the first mailbox every time I go to otherinbox and because it doesn't properly sanitize HTML.
Altogether it makes look otherinbox look quite unprofessional.

Inappropriate?Thanks for the feedback Hein!
The idea about why you might not care is that if they abuse it, all of the mail will still come to that one Mailbox so it will be really obvious who is at fault and very easy to stop it all by blocking that one Mailbox.
That said, other features that we're working on will require us to block images and links for some Messages and so we might as well offer it for all of them. I don't think it will be that long before you see this option.
Also, I agree that we can do a better job sanitizing the messages. This is a constant battle against the spammers, but its somewhere that we need to play some catch up with Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I'm glad to hear that you are working on this feature :-)
Abuse may be more insidious than just sending you unwanted email. E.g., if I got regular interesting email from a web forum, they could profile my reading habits without me ever finding out... and maybe later letting the world know that I check email a few hundred times a day ;-) http://www.newyorkerstore.com/product...
Re sanitizing HTML: all messages that I get with really rich content have a link for like "Having trouble with images or links? www.example.com/email/121108" -- so personally I'd be inclined to strip HTML drastically for the display inside the otherinbox UI. -
Inappropriate?Hi OtherInbox people,
it seems that 10 people like this idea -- are there any chances that we'll see this feature in the near future?
Thanks :)
