Inappropriate? In addition to grouping mailboxes I would like the ability to create custom folders for individual messages similar to the "Saved" folder.

The ability to add custom folders would greatly enhance the value of this product -
Inappropriate?True that, I drag and dropped an email into another folder to see what would happen and my original folder disappeared. now i cannot recreate the original folder. i am hoping it will recreate itself with the next email.
in addition, it would be nice if i could see what addresses fed into what folders.
I’m sad

Inappropriate? My first thought is that maybe Otherinbox should provide some assistance in grouping mailboxes. So if I do nothing on my own, there still would be a group for online stores, a group for social networks etc.. Although as I think about this maybe some sort of tags that can be applied to mailboxes would be useful.. so mailboxes could have labels like gmail.

We've been thinking about the same thing! Thanks for the suggestion. -
Inappropriate?I like this idea but it should be a label system similar to gmail rather than a directory system like hotmail. That way you can put messages into multiple labels regardless of which inbox they came into.

Yeah I totally agree. -
Inappropriate?I was just going to post about this since my OtherInbox just got to where I have to scroll to see all of my accounts. Looks like you guys are already thinking about it.
While a label system like Gmail would be much more flexible for power users, a simple folder system that groups all of your accounts into categories would be much simpler and easier for most people to immediately understand. Maybe some combination of the two approaches should be considered.
I’m happy

I'm more into folders than labels, but it seems most people don't like folders these days. So I agree that maybe a combination would keep _everyone_ happy. -
I'm with Jasford on this one. Labels/tags are a newer concept for people and somewhat nonintuitive. Folders fit into the paradigm quite well. I'll use labels in my GMail for stuff I am actively managing or is relevant to my current tasks.
Tagging/labeling is a slippery slope. If we turn OtherInbox into a full fledged email client, then it's no longer an "Other" Inbox, and it becomes something you'll need to maintain - which is the antithesis of the spirit of OtherInbox in my mind. -
Jon has a good point about the focus of Other Inbox to begin with. Maybe it is easy to lose sight of the philosophy of the application. It's really an intuitive approach to filters that other systems don't have. Because of that, it brings out the desire to have it be a full-fledged e-mail client. -
Inappropriate?I think people are kind of expecting it to turn into more of a "full fledged email client" - I know I am.
I have Gmail on my phone, anytime I get something important I'm always updated no matter where I am.
When I sit down at my computer, I have Gmail and OtherInbox always open in two tabs in Firefox. Sure there are less important things in OI, but switching back and forth between Gmail and OI, you really start to see what OI is missing and you miss all the features.
OtherInbox for me is about organization. All it should be is a separate email. For instance, if I wanted to check it on my phone, I could. Because there are plenty of times when I would like to check it, but the iPhone app doesn't work and it's too slow to view it in Safari (even in Wi-Fi).
I just wish OtherInbox would let me turn all of my inboxes into 1 so I can put a single IMAP "feed" on my phone. I can't even leave it open too long in FF or I get a "script is taking too long" error. I'm just waiting for it to be super streamlined and fast and easy to use.
Don't get me wrong, I love OtherInbox, and use it increasingly daily. I just think it has some major things to work out.

Inappropriate? It would be great if this worked automagically: shopping.amazon@gustin.oib.com would create or add the amazon emails to the Shopping meta-folder.

Inappropriate?I would love some sort of grouping feature as well - not because I want a full email client (I rarely reply to OIB emails, or even forward them), but because I have used it so much, and am planning on moving ALL of my non-personal/direct email "subscriptions" to it.
For me this is mostly a way to prioritize my email management - if only "personal" messages that are expecting a response go to my main email, I won't be distracted by a clutter of "Someday/Maybe" email, which for me includes dozens of e-zine subscriptions, e-commerce related messages (coupons, sales, etc), and all manner of "email address required" forum and website login mail.
Among this "other" stuff, though, there is a certain priority to me (more useful e-zines, more interesting forums, etc) and right now I don't have an easy way to "prioritize" the many separate "folders" in OIB for viewing. By default everything comes in alphabetized - which is an easy way to find something specific - but involves scrolling and clicking to decide what I should actually be looking at right now.
I think this sort of usage will become common and is within the "mission" of OtherInbox.
Thanks!
I’m thankful

Hello, hfloyd.
Although we do want to eventually add the "custom folder" functionality requested in this post, I did want to point out that you can change the priority of a mailbox to make sure it is at the top or bottom of your mailbox list at this time. -
I think the ability to set up folders and the e mails that will be filed in them would be a great help to most of us who use this feature. -
Inappropriate?Thanks for the tip!
