Option to float mailboxes with new messages to the top
Either a setting or a sort widget. Beginning to see the use when hundreds of IMAP email are being imported and mailboxes start to grow.

We used to have 2 ways of sorting the Mailbox list (in an early alpha version) - alphabetical or by recency (which one had received email most recently). I preferred the latter, but new users got confused by it. When we redesigned the UI, we couldn't find a clean way to incorporate this. But it has come up a few times again about how useful it would be so we will definitely think about it.
One minor consolation, only Mailboxes with Unread Messages in them have the blue circle with the number of Unread Messages in it next to them. So you can scan for ones with Unread messages pretty quickly.

Inappropriate?Although this isn't exactly what you suggested, one thing you can do currently is prioritize your mailboxes so that certain mailboxes will be listed first:
Click the Settings button in the top right
Click the Mailboxes tab at the left
Click the mailbox you want to prioritize
Change the Priority field to High
Click Save
Those with High priority will be listed first in alphabetical order, then Normal, and finally Low.

Inappropriate?This sounds like a brilliant idea.
I suggested combining your inboxes into one. So your newest email is at the top, and would use labels (like gmail) to show which inbox each email is for.
Having it automatically move the inbox(es) with new emails to the top is a step towards the suggestion I made. I'm all for it! Sounds extremely useful :)
