Otherinbox is slowing down!
Hey! I've been using OIB since you guys posted some early beta invites on techcrunch (a long time ago!) and back then I don't recall that otherinbox was so damn slooooow. I mean what happened?
I have a brand new sony vaio (Intel Core 2 duo, 4G DDR2 SDRAM, ...) laptop with a dual boot (linux and vista). I connect to the internet trough a DSL cable and I'm using:
- Mozilla/5.0 Gecko/2009042316 Firefox/3.0.10
- Google Chrome 1.0.154.65
I did some simple stopwatch testing and here are the results:
Chrome:
- opening OIB: 9 sec
- clicking on a folder with 100+ emails: 16 sec for the emails to show up
- marking 100+ emails as read: 20 sec
Firefox:
- opening OIB: 5sec
- clicking on a folder with 50+ emails: 21 sec for the emails to show up
- marking 100+ emails as read: 18 sec
I don't know about you guys, but I think that your service is very very very slow! A task of reading my daily mailing lists shouldn't take that long.
I must say I was very enthusiastic when I first signed up and replaced my gmail with a otherinbox email on facebook, twitter, used OIB as my primary mail for college mailing lists subscription (it's very important to me to have those college mailing lists organized), ... but now OIB is becoming a slow and kinda irritating service, that will force me to change my email settings for all the services that I use on a daily basis.
I think you guys should go back to the drawing board and come up with a service that is as fast as gmail (or faster!)
Kind regards, Tomaž

Inappropriate?Hi Tomaž,
THANK YOU for your feedback and for being an early beta tester! You're not the first one to tell us that OIB is too slow for you - as we've signed up new users we had hit some "growing pains" that you are feeling.
We are working hard right now on some major improvements to speed things up. You should see the results of our efforts in the next few weeks. Thank you for your patience while we work through this.
I’m confident we'll address this soon
-
That was some fast PR-ing right there! Hope you guys make it work. -
Inappropriate?Hi Tomaz,
We added more resources dedicated to servicing the part of the app you benchmarked above. Please let us know if you continue to have problems with those larger mailboxes. Thanks for the stats too!
I’m stoked with the speed improvement.

Inappropriate?I've had the exact same issue.
I've not seen improvement, but only getting worse.
Like Tomaz, I love OIB, and think it's a great tool and potential. But not being able to read my OIB in a timely manner because of load time is now getting beyond reasonable. After all, this isn't beta anymore.
I’m starting to get impatient.
-
Inappropriate?Ok, forget the slow part, because things are getting worse for me. Take a look at the attached image.

This is the warning message I'm getting about 90% of the time when I try to open OIB.
I have a 10Mbit connection and your service is claiming that I have a slow connection? rly?
I’m frustrated

I have this problem too... every time I login, I get the "We're sorry / slow connection." message. Are there any planned fixes around this? I have a LOT of email in OIB and I login to lookup this or that almost daily. -
Jeremy we think we have this fixed on http://alpha.otherinbox.com and will be promoting it soon. Can you test it out there and see if it fixes it for you?
Separate from the login error, we are experiencing a slowdown due to some explosive growth we've had over the past 2 weeks. We're implementing some major database changes to allow us to scale and appreciate your patience as it is is a significant undertaking that will take some more time to implement. -
Inappropriate?tomaz, what URL are you going to when logging in to OIB? And, are you using a bookmark?
-
yes, I'm using a bookmark - http://beta.otherinbox.com/box/ -
Can you try the URL https://my.otherinbox.com instead and see if that works better and more consistently for you?
