Slowdown after running for a long time
My browser seems to get slow after OtherInbox has been running for a long time.
justinxxvii: @otherinbox btw so far it's happened when I have a gamefaqs page or a craigslist page up in another tab
justinxxvii: @otherinbox ok I installed firebug. what button should i add to my toolbar to determine the problem? if I can even click it =)
justinxxvii: @otherinbox just having my inbox window open in a separate tab lags firefox to death until browser lockup. bug? mem leak? mem usage is high!
justinxxvii: @otherinbox nevermind, i can't replicate it again. fix't itself =)
justinxxvii: @otherinbox A couple e-mails in my box lock up the latest Firefox, and my RAM usage shoots way up to about 150 MB. Can I forward them to u?

Inappropriate?Sorry to hear about this problem. So that I can track down the error, can you tell us what version of Firefox you are running? And what operating system you are running? (Windows Vista, XP, OS X, etc.) Yes if you could forward the mails that are causing a lock up to help@otherinbox.com that would be super helpful.

Inappropriate?Firefox v 3.0.3
Windows XP Pro
AMD X2 4400+
2GB RAM
This isn't necessarily a long time running, it's just if I make it the inactive tab. Browsing a few pages will cause the active tab to slow down and not accept input, giving me the (Not Responding) title bar notification for a few seconds, then input will flood the page quickly (scrolling all the way down, for instance) and then repeat the freeze cycle. Changing tabs takes a long time but if I close the OtherInbox tab Firefox resumes normal browsing.
At first I thought it was a specific mail from a radio station - the first tag in my inbox - but I deleted that folder and then my Amazon mail started locking me up - second tag in my inbox. Even plain-text mails do it. -
Inappropriate?Hi Justin,
Although I haven't been able to reproduce your error, we have made a number of enhancements that affect performance of the app. We just deployed a new version last night that should resolve your problem. Would you mind trying again?
If you shift-click your page reload button, that will guarantee you get the latest version of our code (we cache it to make load time faster)
Thanks for your patience!

Inappropriate?Hey Justin, we should combine our threads... I've done some more testing and with nothing running but firefox 3.02 on XP and the built in resource monitor. With a single tab open I log into other inbox and do nothing else. After about a minutes cpu usage is at 100%. One other note, this is with all add-ons disabled.
I did the same thing with chrome and cpu usage stayed at 3 ( so that confirms what Justin said in the other thread that chrome is not a problem)
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate? It sounds like we may have a resource leak of some kind. I'll do some profiling this week to see if we can lock this down. Thanks for your patience!

Inappropriate? We could use some help tracking this down further. If its not too inconvenient, would you mind installing Firebug to help us collect more information? Firebug is an open source debugging tool from Mozilla. It lets you see much more about what's going on and what's slowing things down.
You can download and install it here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire...
Then open OtherInbox and leave it for a while until you can reproduce the problem. Finally, open up Firebug by clicking the icon in the lower right hand corner of your browser.
Enable the Console and Script panels, click the Profile button, and then reproduce the problem. Then click the Profile button again and it will generate a report, which you can post the results of here.
Thanks for your help in tracking this down!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Yes, I'm having this problem too. I have otherinbox.com open in one of my tabs and every few minutes Firefox hangs for a good few seconds. I can't click on anything (tabs, links, File menu) for at least 5-10 seconds, and then it frees up.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Since I posted last, I hadn't used otherinbox with Firefox, been using only with Chrome.
I installed Firebug and opened Firefox and Otherinbox and ....there is no more slow downs. Note, however, that Firefox has updated to 3.03 since then as well, so maybe they've fixed something.
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?I was having this problem on Sunday (yesterday); am not having it now. I likewise have worked around by using Chrome without any trouble. Yesterday I was using FF 3.0.4 on a Windows XP workstation at the office. And scratch that -- I am having the problem now after all. Firebug report to follow.

Inappropriate? It's about 580 lines of data; how about a spreadsheet.

Thanks for forwarding us the report from Firebug! We'll take a look at it and see if that helps us figure out what's going on. -
Inappropriate?Thank you. No surprise, but I'm having the same problem using Other Inbox via Prism 0.9.1.
-
Inappropriate?I'm still having this problem. Has it been fixed yet? I am in Firefox 3.0.5 running on Windows. This is getting to a point where I might move back to my old, reliable Gmail account!
