Status indicator during IMAP import
I gather there is an email that triggers when import is finished, but, would be nice to have some kind of banner indicator during import. Not a progress bar (although that would be ideal, I'm not sure it's feasible), but at least something to indicate that it's working so one doesn't have to refresh to see things coming in.

Inappropriate?Maybe we could add a progress area under Settings -> Import Mail so you could always go check on Imports that are running. Or do you think it should be always visible on the Messages view?

Inappropriate?Great question. Honestly my gut reaction was first "did my settings work? is anything happening?". So from that perspective, some kind of "Success, we'll get started" message would probably go a long way and you wouldn't have to clutter up the main UI. (Give the message, then move to inbox...)
Then any kind of secondary indicator would probably be sufficient, for example on the import mail page. Definitely understand the need to respect the form of the inbox page w/o too many distractions.1 Comment

You're supposed to see a status message at the top of the screen after starting the import, that tells you we will send you an email when it is complete. We're having some problems getting it to display properly though... that should accomplish most of what you seem to be talking about. -
Inappropriate?But as for all long-running tasks after some time the user questions how long he has to wait to see some changes. So a page (like suggested under settings) where some status (like 'imported 234 messages, still running') could be very helpful.
