Firefox crashes when my blog tries to load Outbrain
odb.outbrain crashes Firefox when I am at work and connect to my blog, but not at home. I work at a school for kids where we use Fortinet, a website filter, and perhaps it is not going through there. Could that be the problem? Or what else could it be?

Any suggestions?

Inappropriate?Hi Debra
1. don't be sad, lets try to fix it!
2. questions:
- what version of firefox are you using?
- what if you try to use Microsoft Internet Explorer (if is Microsoft machine)?
- Is it crashed with some message?
3. lets do a small test that shuts the Outbrain Rater locally, so we can determine if the rater is the cause.
(this explanation is for XP machine - if it something else let me know)
- Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
- You will see a file named: "hosts" edit it with Notepad
- Add a new line at the end with this line:
127.0.0.1 widgets.outbrain.com
this will redirect you browser to your local comuter instead of outbrain server
- Save the "hosts" file.
- Restart your Firefox (all the windows of Firefox)
- reload the Blog.
if Firefox is not crashing anymore - then the rater was involved.
either way, let me know, until we figure out the cause.
sorry for your inconvenience

Dear Uriel,
Thanks for trying to cheer me up, but unfortunately, I am still sad. :-(
Your response might work for a Windows machine but I use a Mac and I have OS X 10.411. Sorry that I forget to mention that! The version of Firefox that I am using is 2.0.0.16. Remember, the blog does not crash when I am at home, only when I am at work. That is what is strange, and that is what makes me think it has to do with our Fortinet web blocker. And by the way, there is no message when it "crashes", it just goes into a spinning wheel that never ends, and then I have to force quit Firefox.

Inappropriate?Hi, everyone! I've solved the problem of my Firefox crashing. It turns out that it was not related to Outbrain at all. Instead it was due to some other code that I had installed on my blog around the same time that I installed Outbrain. I discovered which block of code was causing the problem by removing the last page elements I had installed, one by one, until the problem ceased. Outbrain is working just fine!
Many thanks to Uriel for his help.
Debbie
I’m thankful
