We currently do not support a microphone within paltalkexpress (it's listen-only).
We would like to first work out some security-related considerations, as these differ from paltalkscene. We expect to have this functionality in place in roughly a few weeks.

Inappropriate?Hi Peter
I have been waiting for a Mac client for quite some time, so Thank you and team for the hard work.
Although I thought there would be a Mac thick client release, I will say that I am very impressed with the performance, functionality and look&feel of the thin client.
I definitely look forward for more features to be added.
Thanks for the hard work!
I’m Thankful
-
Inappropriate?i love the fact that it works on linux . cant wait for the finished version. keep up the good work
I’m very happy
-
Inappropriate?I'm thrilled with it. I'm a former purple nick from the old PalTalk, and had to give it up when I switched over to Mac. It's wonderful to see that you're finally making some effort to open your service up to Mac users.
So far those features that are available have worked well. I look forward to the addition of voice and eventually video to tthe mix.
I only hope that this alpha release (and the eventual beta and public releases) don't take the place of creating a full PalkTalk Scene client for Mac! While it's nice to have access to the rooms in any form, I don't believe that the web is a viable platform for enterprise-level a/v, particularly once it starts getting popular. I say this with no disrespect to the PalTalk programmers and admins, but with 13 years of web development experience under my belt. As the number of users increases, so will lag. Given the problems they've had in the past with lag and synch difficulties, this looks like it will be a major problem to overcome.
All in all though, I like it! Thanks, Pal...
I’m optimistic

I just switched to a MacBook Pro yesterday so I am still getting use to it after being a PC user for 15 years. I just got fed up with M$. So far I like the express version since at least I can use it with the Mac, I think Kevin Barth has summed up all my feelings as well. I am also in the IT profession and also have been to the competition's sites that are pure web based and this is the reason I liked Paltalk before converting to the Mac because it was a full client that actually worked most of the time.
Keep up the good work, but also work on porting the windows app to Linux and Mac platforms. -
Inappropriate?I find the interface quite similar to the actual messenger (long time user on PC) but i don't know if it's just me or whatever the reason may be the sound is jumbled with a heap of static and i find it hard to hear what the ppl are saying but the actual interface is quite good

Inappropriate?OK SERIOUSLY WE NEED THE FREAKING MIC FEATURE THIS RIDICULOUS SERIOUSLY!!! it's PALTALK. ADD THE MIC ALREADY it's not that hard!
I’m PISSED AT PALTALK

Inappropriate?I am very pleased to see there is a Mac client. I am a computer professional and have some nice PC's here to support my client base in Windoze, OSX and Linux. To date, when I have used my mac it is with Parallels which works fine, but a native client is a good thing. Presently running OSX 10.5 on a Macbook Pro and the express client works if you set your Java Preferences from J2SE 5.0 to J2SE 1.4.2. It seems Leopard has a problem as J2SE has not been released as yet. If I can help in any way, I am using K12RS Rider for testing. My active Nic is Vince_OZ. Good luck, this is a major step. For me just the chat is a big step forward.

I’m Very, Very Happy

Inappropriate? The client works...is rough around the edges...but it is very nice to see. Since flash now support h.264 I assume video is not far off. Admin access, and mic would be nice for starters, and the ability to pop up windows instead of the tabs....I even got a room invite and say how nice that popped up. I look forward to the development of this, running currently on a MacBook, also have MacBook Pro, soon a MacBook Air, and a Mac Pro. Paltalk works GREAT in Windows on the MacBook Pro, with the exception of the stupid trend to NOT have a stereo mix available in new drivers. I use line in...but I cant wait to spin directly from a Mac.
I’m exstatic

Inappropriate?Want to know whether there are security related issues on the current paltalk express?
-
Inappropriate?Being a user that is used to the windows-based client but looking into moving to Ubuntu, i really won't to see that this Alpha gets a good push.
I think the limitations hinder the feedback that others are giving, but is there a way to be updated when a new change is made to the Alpha code so that you guys and gals are getting accurate feedback.
I was not yet able to see any cams
I was able to use basic chat commands to whisper but my limited knowledge of the commands means I can't give a full list of what works and doesn't
All in all it looks like a very good tool. Please keep working on this and stop fiddling with the Windows client so much.
-
Inappropriate?I think there should be a separate forum for people that know what they are talking about..
I’m Disappointed
-
Inappropriate?I seem to be able to send audio.. (Excellent) however I can lock the mic down. (Not so good)
The views for Cams are a thing of beauty. Just thought that should be mentioned. I will be doing more chatting on the express to check thru anymore things.
Any idea on how long or if we will be able to log into rooms as an admin? -
Inappropriate?Checked out today's release.. cams work, whispers seem to work. Using 10.5.2. Its a bit slow, but it is java. I suspect if Apple ever updates its client it will be good. I am using a black nic as I am doing other things with my green one. I'm not an admin in any rooms anymore. Have not tried the mic yet. But your on track. Contact me directly for specific testing. Keep it up, thanks. .Vince
I’m ecstatic

Inappropriate?Today I retested the favorites and now it seems to be working.. thanks
I’m very pleased
-
Inappropriate?I'm just using it now. I have an iMac, and using Safari to browse. Some issues I've found so far is that when I try to check people's profiles in chat rooms, by right clicking on a nickname, the ability to do so is greyed out. Also, it seems to interrupt the sound when I right click on a nickname.
Also, when I try to adjust my Preferences under "file", to turn off the sound that notifies me of someone on my Pal List logging on when I'm in a chat room, even though I check that option, it still occurs when I'm in a chat room.
Some more feedback may be forthcoming. -
Inappropriate?I also attempted to change the hotkey used to use the mic in a chat room, and am unable to make such a selection under the Preferences dialog. My F1 key is used to adjust the brightness of my screen in the OSX environment (and with my flat keyboard), so I can't use that one. I can still use the "Press to talk" button, however with that, I can't double click it to lock the mic (hands free use).
-
Inappropriate?Another report: The shortcuts for emoticons seem to be slightly different than with the Windows version. For example, the :) combination gives the emoticon that would normally be associated with the :d combination. Also, (l) gives one of the other emoticons for the "love" emoticon, not the usual one.
-
Inappropriate?I also can't initiate PM's with anyone. I can receive PM's however. I can't initiate PM's in the Pal List either.
Once someone PM's with me, I can reply to their PM. -
Inappropriate?I have a notification at the bottom of my Safari browser window (currently used to connect to Paltalk), "There were two errors opening the page. For more information, choose Activity from the Window menu". When done, the following two errors were found:
Address: http://199.106.90.71/g2/groupphoto?gr...
Status: not found

Inappropriate?I can't publish video, but that's of course a limitation with the "alpha" for now. Other than that, and the issues above, I don't see any problems. It's working pretty well; I can take the mic. The room scroll moves rather well. I can access rooms like usual. I'm satisfied for now, and hope the issues above will be resolved, but I think I may use this interface to access Paltalk from now on.
I’m satisfied
-
Inappropriate?Oh, I almost forgot: I can't turn on join notifications in the chat rooms.
-
Inappropriate?I don't get any notifications at all actually, even if I'm dotted and attempt to post to the chat. I do see a "dot" by my nickname however, when dotted. Also, of course, my text isn't seen by the room when I'm dotted, but again, I don't get a notification ("Alert") that tells me "Your text is disabled" or whatever it is when I am dotted and attempt to post to the room. I therefore don't get any "Alerts" from Paltalk, advertising rooms open at a given time, etc.
-
Inappropriate? The ignore feature doesn't work either (also greyed out) when I attempt to do it by right clicking on a nickname in a chat room.
-
Inappropriate?Sometimes after a while, the box that shows the person on the mic shows two people on the mic. Just refreshing the room (leaving and re-entering without logging off of Paltalk) solves that issue.
-
I get that too. I use Java J2SE 1.4.2 and fluid.app on Mac OSX 10.5.2 on a MacBook Pro. -
Inappropriate?DUDE UR REALLY STARTIN TO ANNOY ME. JUST PLAY WITH ALL THE FEATURES AND PUT IN 1 BIG Paragraph. JESUS CHRSIT!!!
I’m PISSED OFF OF THIS GUY
-
Inappropriate?Ok! How is it "pissing you off"? I figured the Paltalk technicians would appreciate real time reports. No one is forcing you to view this thread. Besides, no one else responded to this thread for 10 days before today, so it's not like I'm interrupting any other active conversation on the thread. But whatever. I'm pretty much done now anyway.
I’m frustrated
-
How about because everyone on here gets your emails? .. 10 not counting this one i am responding to at the moment. How about because if the Paltalk technicians were here realtime they would have responded somewhere between your 4th and 8th post.
That is not to say your information and questions are valuable and valid but its FRIGGING annoying to see my email box full of your conversation. -
Here's an idea. How about if you look at the bottom of this e-mail, or any other e-mail you receive from Get Satisfaction, and notice the following:
This message sent from Get Satisfaction.
To change your email settings, click here.
Notice, you can change your e-mail preferences to not receive e-mail at all notifying you of new replies on any thread, or also, in the same e-mail you can also read a hyperlink that states, "Stop following this question", which, I presume, would apply to this thread only.
That, combined with the fact that if this thread was as popular as Paltalk would want, there would be literally hundreds of e-mails swamping your inbox from all sorts of people, would lead a rational person to realize that it would be best to elect to NOT receive e-mails notifying one of new replies to this thread.
So I'm sorry clicking on those links is so difficult, but I have little sympathy for those who do not know about these features, features I might add which are common to virtually every discussion board across the NET. -
Inappropriate? While I understand you feel as though you are being picked on and understandably defending your position, perhaps it would be nice if you sat back for a while at put some thought into things before you do them.
I have not disabled the responses because.. and I know this might be a surprise.. but I am looking to find out the answers to my questions. Also it is good to hear everyone else's experiences as they might have more luck with something than I do or even try something different. So i do read all of the emails that others send in.
What was asked of you in a rather rude way is that you try and send your questions in one single entry to lessen the amount of emails in one topic.
If your concern is to increase the amount of emails and therefore the likely hood of a response, why not open a different topic for each of your specific issues. That way .. you increase the amount of topics and you don't aggravate those of us not as enlightened as yourself.
Might I also point out, on virtually every discussion board on the NET, if you enter reply after reply you will either a)Get flamed or b) get ignored. But then I am sure this is how you act on all those places also. I found it interesting that you tested the dot and/or bounce features, as I would never have thought to do so.. Now I understand why you would be interested in that sort of functionality.
I hope that you really don't take my response to be overly sarcastic, as I took yours to me. But logic and previous experience means you probably will.

Dear Sir/Madam:
The point of this thread is to deposit all types of bug issues related to Paltalk Express/Alpha. There is no reason to start a new topic elsewhere about these issues. It's on the homepage of getsatisfaction.com/paltalk where it says the title, "hey everyone, how are you finding PaltalkScene Express (alpha) so far...?". I was lead to the homepage of getsatisfaction.com/paltalk by the "Report a bug" link in the Paltalk Express/alpha version.
Don't you think it's reasonable that a person using the program at that time would deposit their bug reports in this thread? Where else were the bug reports supposed to go? Can you or anyone point me to the thread where they were supposed to go?
If you can see that they were supposed to go here, then how could anyone want to see anything more than hundreds of replies to the original question?
As far as getting answers to one's questions, that's what the OTHER threads should be for. As far as I can see, this one is for bug reports.
But even if it wasn't, and this is another thread for answering questions about the bugs, then, still, given the amount of mail this particular thread would generate, why wouldn't someone just click on "Stop following this question", and monitor the thread manually?
I understand that usually when someone posts a lot of replies to a thread, they are going to get flamed. I guess I should have expected that. But I figured most would realize this thread was dedicated to bug reports, and not necessarily bug resolution. And yes, you're right my last response (as well as this one) was rather sarcastic; I don't like it that I'm the recipient of some people's misplaced rage.
Where are the bug reports supposed to go? If not this thread, where? If this thread, why wouldn't anyone expect this thread would generate 100's of responses from various people? -
Forget my last post above. I'm sorry about the disruption I caused. For the record though, I tested the red dot feature by having a friend who was an admin dot me, and then seeing if anyone could see me type in the room. IOW, I wasn't red dotted for disruptive behavior. -
Inappropriate?people have accused me of jumping the mic in a room when I haven't even tried to use it, so I'd say I'm having some problems with it right now. I'm using a mac
-
Inappropriate?I continue to have problems with it. My latest problem is the cams that used to come up for me aren't coming up now. I never get a response back when I report something. It really makes me mad because I paid for the upgrade and I know they're not gonna tack time on my subscription. Each week it's a new problem.
