Why can't I hear audio in any chat room using Paltalk Express on a Mac?
Using Paltalk Express, I can only hear group sounds. I've tried 3 browsers (Safari, Firefox, and Navigator). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and Flash, as well as trashing various preference files, changing Java and Midi preferences, and removing audio software that might be causing conflict.

Inappropriate?I am running 10.4.11 Tiger on an Intel MacBook, sound seems to work in chat rooms just fine for me. I'm also trying to get it to work on Linux Ubuntu but like your Mac, I have no sound in rooms. I understand that OSX and Linux are related in a lot of ways so I'm thinking that if you are able to resolve your issue, it might help me, and some other Linux folks.

Thanks for your reply! I suspect that rolling back to 10.4 Tiger is a possible solution, although that would take me a lot of time. Hopefully, a PalTalk Express update will resolve our respective issues. -

Sista7:
On your Mac, are you running OS 10.5 Leopard or OS 10.4 Tiger? -
Inappropriate?I was able to resolve my Linux sound issue by simply reinstalling Java. My Mac has been working fine but since I got my Linux box working I prefer to use it as much as possible. The only problem so far is that Paltalk Express does not seem to support microphones but for me I do more listening than speaking.

Inappropriate? On a Mac using Leopard - the best way to use PalExpress is to make it into a Fluid app. Goto http://fluidapp.com and run the wizard to make a Pal-specific browser. Its very straightforward, there's videos there to show you. There are Paltalk dock icons here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/fluid_ic...
EDIT: For Tiger, use Prism http://tinyurl.com/2gshwa
Anyway, back to your problem... You want to set your preferred JVM to J2SE 1.4.2 in java preferences (/applications/utilities/java/java preferences.app) and hit save. Once you're in PalExpress, you'll want to right-click/option-click in the middle of the page and goto settings. Let it take your mic and webcam input. Your built-in mic notes its built in, your built-in iSight is the bottom USB webcam. I know it doesn't work yet, it will. save those settings and you'll be good to go. The most important thing to do there is set your JVM to the one noted. -
Thank you, I followed all your suggestions and I'm officially a happy camper :<) -

Inappropriate?PROBLEM SOLVED!
My cable modem's firewall was the culprit. Since I couldn't figure out which ports to unblock, or how to do that, I just turned it off and am relying on OS X's firewall.
