Help please :D = I cannot sign up or log in. Where are the installation or setup directions? How are we suppose to know what to put in the address and port? during setup I keep getting connection failure. There is not one post on the community that starts with connection failure..

Kind regards,
Saxamo

Inappropriate?Sorry that the documentation is not yet covering all topics. ;-)
As an IM address at the Log In dialog you can use your Gmail account (eg. someone@gmail.com) or any other XMPP address. Follow the Sign Up wizard to register a new XMPP address. You can create an account on public XMPP servers like jabber.org
The port and host can usually be left blank. Pandion automatically detects those (using a DNS SRV record lookup). Only use those fields if your XMPP server requires it, otherwise leave them blank. For example use them when instructed by your company's IT administrators for custom settings that may be required on your company's intranet. For a GMail account it might help if you use host talk.google.com and port 5222 but usually this is not required. -
Inappropriate?Thanks for that information..
I am on windows 7 and it is working just fine.. I did not create a new user but used my gmail account information. I also added the server talk.google.com as the server. I am logged in.. I added a hotmail account for a person that uses WLM. I am curious if I am going to be able to talk to him? It say awaiting authorization. Thanks for the fast reply.
I don't have anyone to test this out with that is using WLM and have some reading to do on how to use this program.
What made me choose this IM is its simplicity!. I love it.. I just hope it works for me. I want to talk to someone that is on googletalk. Are there any specific settings or plugins or addons that I need to accomplish this?
Let me know.. and thanks again for the quick response.. it was a deciding factor in me uninstalling it or not..
Kind regards,

Inappropriate? The Google Talk client is actually just like any other XMPP client. That means you can use Pandion with any GTalk account, or GTalk (desktop) with any other XMPP account.
Because the GTalk XMPP server supports federation you can communicate with users on the "gmail.com" domain from any other XMPP server. For example alice@gmail.com can chat with bob@jabber.org because both servers (gmail.com and jabber.org) are part of the federated XMPP network.
Windows Live Messenger is not an XMPP service so you cannot simply add those contacts using their WLM address. When you add a WLM contact to your buddy list in Pandion, for example bill@hotmail.com, your XMPP server will try to connect to "hotmail.com" as if it were an XMPP federated server. It isn't, so that will fail, and your WLM buddy will never receive any messages or presence from you.
The solution is to use a transport. These are XMPP services which translate and relay data between the XMPP federation and other, often proprietary networks like WLM. A transport has an address that looks like a server but usually with a subdomain. For example: "msn.someserver.com" You can register with transpors in Pandion by going to Tools -> Transports. To find a public transport for WLM check here: http://xmpp.org/services/

Inappropriate?Wow.. thanks for that boatload of information.. it answered 99% of my questions.. I guess the last question I have is:
How do we know on that list which servers support public transport for WLM. Should I be contacting the owners?
Kind regards,
Saxamo -
Inappropriate? Most will have websites detailing which services they offer.
You can also use Pandion to automatically scan a server address for transports. Go to Tools -> Transports and choose Other Transport. Then enter the server address from that public list in the above post. Pandion should list out all the available transports. -
Inappropriate?okay.. now I understand.. Thanks.. and finally.. How do I remove transports once they are added? Have a great weekend!
-
Inappropriate?Right click them and choose Delete.
-
Inappropriate?Interestingly enough if you don't register with a transport they disappear once you close down pandion and restart it.
I did want to throw one more thing out there.. My profile pages with the exception of SYSTEM remain blank no matter how many times I fill them out. The settings must be some place cause I can change my nickname and it changes in the dialogue box.. But everything except SYSTEM is blank even though I filled it out completely.
Just wanted to throw this out there in case it is a bug for Windows 7 or something..
THanks! -
Inappropriate? You should probably create new discussion threads for questions that are unrelated to the original topic. That way other people can more easily find this information later.
Profile information is stored as a vCard on the XMPP server. Some servers do not support this so the profile will be blank when you refresh it.
Hmm... ideally Pandion should check vCard support before allowing users to waste their time editing data that will be discarded. ;-)
The other things you noticed:
- The system section of the profile is generated by Pandion and not stored on the server.
- Nickname is stored locally in Pandion's profile directory buried deep in %APPDATA%
