File transfer not working?
Hi there,
I have setup Pandion which connects to a server (public) - openfire which i have installed on our dedicated server
If 2 clients are on an internal lan when i do a file transfer from 1 client to another client it works without an issue, it appears it is quite intelligent as i notice from the speed that its actually transferring between the lan.
The problem is that when i send a file from OUTSIDE our lan but also connect to the same server... then it fails to a user within our lan.
I notice that in pandion there is some mappings of ports...
is it really necessary to map ports to force the file transfer?
Does this mean i have to map ports within my router?? which ports and at which end??
I have disabled the firewall...
I was hoping there was some way to get it to work transparently i.e just works - maybe over port 80 or something?¿??
I am unsure, any help would be really appreciated
thanks

Inappropriate?Great, thanks for the quick response.. OK i will have to map some ports.
Just interested, it appears that the file transfer is specific to pandion - i.e. pandion uses its own file transfer "WAY" ....
In the future do you think it maybe possible to do file transfer without having to map ports on router?
Also the public ip address is not fixed - its dynamic ... of course i can use a dynDns or similar..
but surely if the router has a mapping of a port to the internal ip - is there really any need for the public Ip .....
as the router will map the port what ever public ip it is..
Just interested..
and thanks again. -
Inappropriate?when i stated that pandion uses its own file transfer methods, i was assuming this from your comment on the other post
"Pandion and Spark use different protocols for file transfer ....."
sorry i forgot to say that :-) -
Inappropriate?Currently Pandion implements Out of Band Data
http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0066.html
Eventually this will be replaced by Jingle File Transfers
http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0234.html
Those will eliminate the need for port mapping and the public IP hassle. -
Inappropriate?Hello Sebastiaan, nice to can comunicate...
I have the next problem..., i ́m using Pandion without problems since 2 years ago, but recently, can ́t transfer any files trough the same LAN or the Internet.
The server is running Openfire 3.6.4, ane the Pandion version always was 2.5.
Any idea?
The settings in the server are the same from ever...
...regards from Uruguay...!!!
I’m in blank

Inappropriate?Hello Miguel. Can both machines ping each other? Any firewall or NAT between the computers can block the file transfer.
