Pandion Portable without registry requirement?
Hi. I am not sure if this is supported but I am trying to use a portable Pandion in our Citrix desktop environment. The issue is that standard users do not have permissions to make changes to registry and for some reason the Pandion portable seems to require this. When I run the executable I get "Cannot activate the programming interfaces. etc...access to windows registry..." etc. Is there any way to get this to work so that it is entirely standalone and portable? I really prefer the look and feel of this client and am really hoping I will be able to make use of it in our environment. TIA!

Known limitations:
- Pandion will not automatically open *.jisp files (emoticon styles) or *.pdn files (plugins, backgrounds). You can still install them through the application, just not from a web browser.
- Pandion will not be able to handle XMPP URI like xmpp:someone@example.net
- Profile data is stored in the user's profile directory, this may or may not be a problem depending on your environment.
I intend to solve the first two problems and make an XML setting for the third so that anyone can easily build a portable Pandion.

Pandion 2.6 will no longer require registry access. Try the dev preview:

Inappropriate?Awesome! Thanks! So, I downloaded, installed, and then copied the program installation folder to another computer and just ran the executable (without installing). Seems to work ok. Do you think I will have any problems just copying the folder to each persons profile?

The first two limitations have been solved in Pandion 2.6.x development builds. -
Inappropriate?Cool. So in my case where I have just copied over the installation directory, where would the users profile data be?
-
Inappropriate?%APPDATA%\Pandion\Profiles

Inappropriate?I see. Thanks. Last question...bad idea to use in production environment at this point? (2.6 that is)...
-
Inappropriate? It's meant for dev testing right now. Some features aren't ready yet like the new tab and conferencing where the UI is broken. The auto-updater is also going to change a bit so you would have to handle the upgrade rollout yourself once 2.6 is released.

Inappropriate?Very good work, can I help saying what files changed to make it portable? ... I'm looking for this for my company .. Thanks
-
Inappropriate? You can change the path in /src/main/init.js
I think I'll make this an option in the XML file, should be more convenient since it's a popular request. -
Inappropriate?But its not need libbind.dll ...
Can show me what I gotta do to take it one error in admin ...? help me on this please? -
Inappropriate?Friend I do not know if I explained well, but I'd appreciate your help ...
I wanted to create his equal to 2.6 without hassle with the message when we run the admin program asks the first attempt admin privileges ...
You see me? thanks

Inappropriate?I haven't tested that yet in Pandion 2.6 so I can't help you right now. You can just experiment with it.

Inappropriate? You know I got my client all of it created by me for the company ... I to do it again apartir the 2.6 would be something like starting over, if I know the files to change would be easier ....
It was the friend who did that work?
Thanks for responding

Inappropriate?As I said earlier:
You can change the path in /src/main/init.js
There's just one file and one line of code to change. -
Inappropriate?alert( 'Error: Can not activate the programming interfaces.\n\nThere are several possible reasons for this problem:\n\nCause: You do not have write access to the Windows Registry.\nSolution: Log in to Windows with more access rights (Administrator) and reinstall the software.\n\nCause: The Windows Registry is full.\nSolution: Increase the maximum size of the registry.' );
Friend wanted to end it ....
So that the program open and not have to request access admin ... I have to change the directory to prevent this from happening? Sorry to ask too ... Thanks -
Inappropriate?I already gave you enough pointers to help you make this simple change. If you cannot figure this out then just wait until it's implemented by a developer and goes into the official release.
