Inappropriate? That's a fantastic question, Chris. I keep meaning to write a Pandora blog post on this subject...
Here's my advice.
If you're trying for a fairly upbeat station, with high beats per minute, try making stations based on a number of individual songs that exemplify the tempo you want.
[See here (http://blog.pandora.com/faq/index.htm...) for more info on creating and tuning Pandora stations.]

Here's my exercise station, in case you might like it:

I also asked my co-workers their advice:
Here's a station suggestion, from a co-worker who's a musician and a DJ:

Another co-worker, also a musician and a professional DJ, adds these 2 stations to the mix. He makes amazing stations *and* he's a marathon runner, so I'd try his out:
He says, "this is good running station, seeded with jungle & drum & bass.
160-170 bpm, pretty much."
http://www.pandora.com/stations/4bf2e...
"this is good too. it's house though, 120-130 bpm"

And one last co-worker, an electronica musician, has this to say:
"160-170 - that'd be breakbeat or drum & bass in the electronica world. Maybe try these artists:
deekline & wizard
DJ Icey
Crystal Method
Chemical Brothers"

Inappropriate? That is a GREAT answer! I am a beginner runner with a LOT of weight to lose so I will be trying a lot of these in preparation to run a 5K in December!
The one I found was by the user leese and is http://www.pandora.com/stations/f8f1a...

Inappropriate?Yay, that's exciting, Chris! Good luck on your training.
With weight loss, slow and steady wins the race, for sure. Not sure how well that tactic works in a foot race though. ;)
I hope you can find lots of ways to stay inspired!
Best of luck,
Lucia
