Why can't I listen to Pandora in Canada anymore?
It stopped working two weeks ago. We love Pandora in Winnipeg, too! Is it a licensing issue? What's up?

Inappropriate?Yes - it is a licensing issue. You can search Lifehacker and similar blogs to get some ways around it. All the details are here: http://blog.pandora.com/faq/#79.
I love Pandora. I can see how this sucks for non-US listeners.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Sorry about that Lane! You'll be able to listen to Pandora any time you're in the U.S., but it's not currently legal for us to stream outside the U.S.
We're working on it; one day (we hope) Pandora will be streamable everywhere...

Inappropriate? Please, make Pandora streamable in Europe (France 1st :p)
It's my favourite site to listen music, but can't do that anymore... :'(

It's a very complicated situation, and we're going to do the best we can! Thank you, Lucia -
Inappropriate?I wrote the crtc twice and both times they told me it wasn't a licensing issue, and they have no control over the internet. So not sure what else we can do if the Canadian govt. says its not a problem. I know who I believe!

Inappropriate?Hi dd -
Thanks for your interest.
The issue is about music royalties, and how they're collected when internet radio plays songs in Canada.
Delivery of Pandora is based on proper licensing from music rights holders - we have always believed strongly in honoring the guidelines as determined by the artists, labels and publishers.
In the U.S. there is a federal statute called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that provides this license for all the music you hear on Pandora. Unfortunately, there is no equivalent license outside the U.S.
We'll let you know if and when things change!

Inappropriate? No offense, but look how far "honoring" the DMCA has gotten you. I think you should move operations to country that has respect for Internet business. Your not going to do right by artists, labels and publishers by running yourselves out of business, even if it's their rules that does it. You guys allowed yourselves to be shut off to the majority of the world and now they are attempting to shut you off completely.

Inappropriate? Thanks for your thoughts, Gerry. Moving our operations won't help, alas. What matters is where the music is streamed, not where your headquarters are.
But! Never fear, we're doing fine, and we still plan to get up and running in countries besides the U.S.
Cheers,
Lucia

Inappropriate?> What matters is where the music is streamed, not where your headquarters are.
Sorry, I wasn't really clear, I meant moving everything to a different country, including the servers. One countries laws do not affect the laws in another country.
As an example, if somebody was to make a website on a US server criticizing the Chinese government, there's nothing the Chinese government could do to stop them even though the information could be "streamed" to people living in China.
So I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.
I’m confused
