Auto-Complete Custom Variables and Functions
A nice feature that I miss in Coda (that I believe is in textmate and Eclipse) is the auto-complete of previously used custom variables and functions within a document. Expanding on this for site wide global variables and includes would be great as well.
Forgive me if this is a setting that exists, but I've missed.

Inappropriate? This is something we are looking at for a future version. Stay tuned, and thanks for the feedback!

When you say future version, do you have an estimate? I'm trying out coda now, and I'm pretty much ready for buying, so if I bought it now would the feature be included in one of the upgrades or would i have to buy coda again? :) -
Inappropriate?I am really hoping to see this implemented... it is the single biggest feature that would increase my coding efficiency right now.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?Some honest feedback.
We are looking in our dev office for a decent mac based IDE. I have downloaded the free trial, installed it and must say that the majority of it is execellent and runs extremely fast and smooth.
I went to give my colleagues a demo, they instantly saw that there was no function or class referencing or autocompletion. They about turned and left my desk area.
I personally like the software and can probably manage without it but the guys here wouldnt even look at your product because of this.
Hope you find this feedback useful
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Me too, I sent an email to you guys about this. Clips are clunky. Autocomplete = great!
I would use it all the time for WordPress and jQuery. -
Inappropriate?I just realized that Code doesn't perform auto-complete for server variables either. This would be very helpful too.

Inappropriate?I just want to say that I agree that Coda would be so much better if it offered code completion based on all the variables and methods included in custom code and libraries.
I was formerly using PHPDesigner 2007 on Windows before switching to a Mac, and that is the main thing I miss. -
Inappropriate?Another +1 here. Even if Coda just accepted output from a popular tag-parsing program like Exuberant Ctags, it would make life so much easier. I have limited autocompletion working using the SubEthaEdit plugins after parsing out all of the object names in Zend Framework, but I hate having to repackage the thing into a bundle every time they do a dot release.
Coda's very nice, but it still doesn't support what web programmers need, even though this has been an issue for months and months. I can't justify paying for Coda until I get this one feature, so back to gVim I go.
I’m unhappy because I can't give you money
-
Inappropriate?Yes. Desperate to code complete on all the code that *I* have written!
-
Inappropriate? The thing I also love about Eclipse and Aptana is that they have autocompletion for even the functions of predefined classes. I would LOVE to have this feature to have autocompletion for all functions, I got used to doing Aptana constantly suggesting stuff and most of it was pretty helpful in speeding up coding. If you really think people will be bothered by TOO much auto-completion, then they can always turn it off or have it pop up only for custom classes :) That's the thing that really makes me like Aptana, otherwise Coda is much better interface-wise. But that feature alone could be the dealbreaker between many people paying $99 or using Aptana.
I’m needing a boost to productivity
-
Inappropriate?Any news on when or even if the feature will be implemented?
I only bought Coda because it was on sale because I knew that the feature did'nt exist...
if an employee of Panic could perhaps shed some light on the matter?
It was 7 months since the last response and then you guys said : "This is something we are looking at for a future version. Stay tuned, and thanks for the feedback!"
"future" is such an abstract word...
I’m a looney

Inappropriate?+6.. We use Zend Framework, Doctrine, our own library & domain classes for each project so it's hard to keep track of changes with a team of developers simultaniously punting out new classes & methods which generates 1000s of files to keep track of...
For benefit of speed & usability I would suggest implementing a 'site include path' besides the site's own files, which would not necessarily have to be updated / watched (perhaps just on start-up?) and a pattern for each file type. For instance css files would benefit from auto-completion of css rules found in other css files as well as image file paths.
Js files I think would be fine with just the js files in scope and in include paths (libraries).
PHP/HTML is a bit of a mixup but in my case at least .php files don't need html/css/javascript, but phtml files do
Hope to see more auto-complete functionality soon, it would definately make Coda the app to use for us. -
Inappropriate?I too would very much like to see this implemented. It would really complete Coda as an all-encompassing web development tool.

Inappropriate? This is the single most reason why everyone in my organization is still using Zend. Add this feature for PHP and you'll have tons of new Coda users - a 900% increase at our company alone!

Inappropriate?I use NetBeans for php coding most of the time, but I'd use Coda if autocompletion of variables and functions were implemented. This is the one feature I'm missing to making that switch permanent.
I’m hopeful.

Inappropriate? This is the mail feature I miss from Zend and NetBeans. Is there an ETA on this feature?

Inappropriate?Single reason why I'm still using NetBeans. Any indication of when this would happen would be appreciated (but I understand if you can't say).
-
Inappropriate?I just want to keep piling on to show how important this feature is. Coda is an amazing, immersive IDE, but this feature's omission is a constant flow-interruptor.
-
Inappropriate? This feature is the only reason why I did not purchase this product.

Inappropriate?I would also love this function, that and missing code folding function is why I haven't purchased this app.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?+1 on my side. Definitely waiting for this feature. Any News since the first post was posted 12 month ago? ;)

Inappropriate? They don't seem to have done much in the past year. I guess they're too busy decorating their new office: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ldanders...

It is a very pretty office. -
Inappropriate?ya what the heck, several of my friends LOVE coda but need the full autocomplete, whats the deal here?
-
Inappropriate? It's not just Coda, Panic as a whole doesn't seem to have released much of anything this year.
