Fireworks' Coda-reply.
Hi, Guys.
I, like many other people, have had enough of Adobe's Mac policy and general bloatednes and crappy performance. The Mac web development community needs you to do the same you did with Coda vs. Dreamweaver, but with Fireworks.
There truly is no real alternative to Fireworks' great mix of vector and bitmap tools. Photoshop not is only is bloated, but doesn't really do what web designers need.
We need you here, guys. There's nobody else we can trust for this work.

Inappropriate?I dunno. I kind of like Fireworks CS4's new interface...
I’m wondering how Coda can develop a graphics app to rival Adobe's when PSD and such is much more complicated than HTML + CSS. Besides, they've so far focused on networking as a core strength, along with the UI. A Fireworks extension is more likely, imho.
-
Inappropriate?I'm not sure I follow you here. I'm not talking about enhancing Coda to allow for Fireworks-like capabilities, but rather developing a new app with the same feeling.
Firework -which, for web design, I like above PS or Pixelmator or any other- pretty much sucks under the hood, no matter how Adobe tries to make a new , improved interface (finally, anyway).
The thing is it's full of useless features for real web professionals, and quite simply it's a second class citizen in OS X, very much like other Adobe products.
I very much agree that the same exercise that was done with Coda to 'solve the Dreamweaver problem' could be applied to Fireworks, developing a new app that focuses on a nice simple blend of pixel and vector tools, slicing, and optimizing. There really isn't much more to do in terms of web design IMHO.
I’m hopeful.

Inappropriate? What I would really like is a tool that would help me do CSS slicing of images, as introduced at A List Apart and recommended by Yahoo's Performance gurus: http://www.websiteoptimization.com/sp...
I’m more interested in addons or additions to Fireworks rather than a 100% replacement. Or ... well ... maybe something unique for image management on the web, with common changes, would be appropriate.
-
Inappropriate?YES!!! This.. would... be... awesome!!! I've tried Acorn and currently use Pixelmator - but I think there should be something more suited for making graphics for the web. I would LOVE to see Panic take on this project!
I’m Confident

Inappropriate? We're not currently working on a program like this, but we're always interested in hearing your suggestions. Who knows what the future could bring?

Inappropriate?Hi Steven. I recently wrote an open letter to software developers regarding this very same desire. I also posted the letter online, if you have 5 minutes why not take a look.
For the record, I too would love to see a really decent Fireworks alternative from a Mac App developer. I think there's a huge gap in the market for a true competitor.
I’m hopeful.
-
Inappropriate?Go Panic, go! You can do it!
-
Inappropriate?I remember Fireworks' PNG implementation was the best! Equal PNG8 compression capabilities is a must.
I'd hate to see you lose focus on Coda though. Maybe team up with someone like Will Thimbleby and Gus Mueller? -
Inappropriate?Well... It's been 10 months since I started this thread and all I can say is I'm even more desperate than then. Fireworks CS4 sucks even more than CS3, and many Mac developers are turning to the iPhone platform and discontinuing development on independent vector or bitmap apps.
During all this time, I have found I'm not alone at all. This post (http://nathanpitman.com/journal/567/a...) shows not only great frustration on the community, but also many people thinking the same way about Panic, and maybe Macrabbit, being the only ones able to achieve the task.
So... I really hope you guys are actually considering the idea ;)
I’m über frustrated.
