Changing default recording directory
Hi.
In the Panopto Recorder, the default recording directory is set to C:\PanoptoRecorder, which shows as invalid. However, changing this requires administrative privileges on the PC... Is there a way around that, or will all the users hit this snag?

Inappropriate?Yes, you do need administrative rights to change the default recording directory. Is that going to pose a major problem for your users?

Inappropriate?Indeed, this is likely to be a problem, unless we can come up with an installer that defaults to a location they have access to.
I’m undecided

Inappropriate?Hi Vlad,
The recording folder setting is stored in a system-level registry key that is shared by the recorder, which runs under the account of the user that launches it, and the background upload service, which runs as a service (i.e. administrator). As a result, setting or modifying this value requires administrative privileges.
We are working on an update to the recorder in the next few months to fix a few small bugs and add some polish and a few small features. We can add an install-time setting for the output folder. Alternatively, it is possible for an ActiveDirectory domain administrator to remotely set this registry value on all machines in a domain, so this is one way of solving this problem across a large user base.
All users of the Hosted platform share the same software version, so our options for customizing this on Hosted are limited. If you're considering an on-premises deployment of Panopto, we might be able to work something out. If you're interested in going that route, please contact support@panopto.com.
Thanks!
Eric
