Panopto Separate Server Install Data Server Path
I am trying to setup Panopto using a separate server for the web and data server and have a question about what to enter in the Data Server path field in step 8 of the web server installation guide for Panopto 2.1. Since the data server folder is going to be on another server should I being entering a network share path such as \\servername.domain\netoworksharename or should I be entering the file system address of where the files will be on the physical data server such as d:\cc_data\video.
Also, since it is on a different server how is the authentication handled between the servers? Do we need to setup a domain account to run Panopto under and grant the user access to the share or does Panopto take care of this some other way.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Inappropriate?Hi,
Could you e-mail support@panopto.com with your contact/school information? We need to verify your support contract before we can assist any further.
Thanks,

Inappropriate?I prepared an illustration which shows how the data server and application server are partitioned.

system architecture - click to see details
The part of the installation you refer to is the Coursecast software installation. At that point you're telling the application server where your master data (the so-called 'data server folder') will be located. This information will be stored in the 'web.config' XML file, located under 'inetpub\coursecast'. The default name given to this folder is 'video' and the contents are your master video recordings. These will be used by the encoder to transcode into your desired output files and used by the editor if you amend any recordings.
So you would use the UNC path (eg- '\\servername.domain\netoworksharename') to specify the location of the 'data server folder' on another machine. Although I haven't tested this, I think you will also need to grant permissions such that the encoder service can access the sessions folder and its contents.

Inappropriate? Thanks this answers my question. I might stick with the single server for now since it sounds kind of iffy with the separate install and we are currently evaluating the product.
Thanks again for the help.
I’m happy
