Pre-Recorded Mac Video Uploads - Format?
I have been using the Windows version of Panopto, and using the work around to upload pre-recorded videos, and I tried something similar with the Mac recorder without success. I a assuming it is because of the video format. I noted that the Panopto Mac files are Perian MP4, but I am wondering if any flavor of MP4 would work. Or can you suggest a standard MP4 format I can export pre-recorded files to so it will work.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Inappropriate?Hi Chael,
Any format other than WMV/VC1 will be transcoded for playback in Silverlight. That means that our back-end transcoder needs to be able to read the MP4 files in order to properly encode them, and that file reader is based on QuickTime. If QuickTime 7 for Windows can play your file, there's a good chance that it will transcode properly, but please be aware that this is officially unsupported. We're looking at our options for CourseCast 3.0, but right now we can't make any guarantees about content that wasn't produced with either the Mac or PC version of the Panopto Recorder.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the reply Eric. I used a standard MP4 H.264 export and when uploading files the Recorder would hang and crash, so maybe it isn't an encoding issues, but some issue in the Mac Recorder that doesn't allow the work around that we are using on the Windows Recorder. (?)
I have a call this afternoon with Panopto and will follow up here as well in case anyone else is interested. -
Inappropriate?Hi Chael,
We haven't confirmed that this workaround (replacing the file) will work with the Mac recorder. If you're seeing this behavior, I suspect it doesn't. Most likely you'll need to use the Windows recorder if you want to inject external content.
Thanks,

Inappropriate?I've looked a bit closer and wondered if it had something to do with the XML file. I'll work on this next week as well.
So what we did for the time being is use Flip4Mac WMV to export the video files from Final Cut Pro or other editing program on the Mac, move to the Windows machine, and upload to the Panopto server using that work around.
I’m working on it
