Stereo audio input problems and solution
I am using an M-Audio AudioBuddy as a phantom power pre-amp for a shure shotgun condenser microphone. The pre-amp has balanced outputs (the same audio signal on both channels for the purpose of noise cancellation) which I fed to the computer through a stereo connector into a line-in port on a MacBook. The low end of the audio was gone, it sounded horrible. It appears Panopto is downsampling the audio into one channel that resulted in phase cancellation. Using an unbalanced (mono) connection into the computer resulted in the VU meter in Panopto not working. Panopto will record just fine (sound quality issue gone) you just have to use another way to measure the input volume.
I wanted to share this with any other customers in case they were having trouble with a similar mic setup.
I don't think this is a problem with Panopto.

Inappropriate?Hi Dean,
This is really interesting. Are you using a MacBook in OS X with the Macintosh recorder or in Windows with the Windows recorder? We don't do any explicit downsampling that I'm aware of, and we take anything that could impact audio quality extremely seriously.
I'd love to speak with you in more detail about what you're experiencing. If you can spare some time, please email support@panopto.com and they can arrange a meeting.
Thanks,
Eric
