YouTube videos are generally offerred as either flv or mp4. As of version 1.2.3 - Miro will prefer the mp4 format and download that.
Format conversion is not offerred as an option w/in Miro.

There's a number of video conversion programs out there that'll perform this function, some free, some not. I'm a fan of VisualHub but that'll run you about 23 USD. -

There are a lot of downloadable converters for Windows. Just google converter flv to mpeg... But what program can mac use for the same problem?

I use avidemux for video conversions. It's free, and does most of the major formats, it's good for just simple conversions/edits.
