How do I delete the icon cache?
thumbnails for all my searches are saved in C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Application Data\Participatory Culture Foundation\Miro\Support\icon-cache. How can I delete them? If I use the windows explorer delete they just come back next time I load the program.
I tried also deleting files in C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Local Settings\Application Data\Participatory Culture Foundation\Miro\Profiles\vxqdys9x.default\Cache but that did not do it either.

Inappropriate?The cache does not only contain the icons from searches - alike from the channels you've subscribed to. When you delete the cache and restart the program the icons from these channels will become visible again. -
Inappropriate?Also thumbnails are supposed to be regenerated when there are none for all local files in your Miro library. This is non-configurable by design (but broken in nightlies atm).1 Comment

But I must delete these thumbnails permanently. Miro is used to download educational videos at a school but somebody has used it to look at porn. There are 500+ pornographic thumbnails that must be deleted before schoolkids can be allowed to use the computer. How do I get rid of them?
If I can't what would happen if I uninstall it - do they go away permanently or are they hidden somewhere? Exactly where do they get reinstated from? There are no subscribed channels at the moment and all downloads have been deleted from this machine but the thumbnails keep coming back. -
Inappropriate?If no channel subscribed you can delete the miro directory (then everything is gone). Maybe there's something left in the database? But afaik the thumbnails will be created from the files - are there no local files left?1 Comment Add a comment

There were no local files and no chanels subscribed but the thumbnails kept coming back after deletion. However I think I solved it. There was a file in the parent folder of the icon cache called sqlitedb. I deleted that and everything reverted to some initial state and only icons related to the default initial subscribed chanels were created. I guess the original videos were moved to other media manually using windows explorer and the sqlitedb file still contained referenced to them. Does that make sense?

Inappropriate?If I might inject a little something here, Saturn, you can just delete the 'icon-cache' folder (assuming you have permissions). This removes the icon thumbnails and log history from Miro. The folder is automatically recreated the next time you launch the application. I hope that helps.
As a side point, this ever-increasing collection of images (or litter) is not only pointless, it slows down one's computer no end. The more files that reside on the hard drive, the more fragmented it becomes and the slower it performs. Why are today's developers such amateurs? What's happened to the testing phase? As for Miro's developers, bravo, your application works, but before you receive your certificate of graduation from high school, you need to stop it from leaking. -
Inappropriate?Saturn: last search is remembered and autoexecuted on launch thus the concerned search results icons would come back every launch until you'd start a new search.

Inappropriate?Saturn, don't stop at speculation. It takes 2 mins to try it. You might find that Miro reverts to its default new-installation on deletion of the icon-cache directory. This should solve your problem.
Final thought: you could even set up a script to delete the directory periodically. -
