Miro application not working correctly (no sound and crash)
I have installed Miro with the help of following to guides:
1. guide: http://www.getmiro.com/download/ubunt...
2. guide: https://develop.participatoryculture....
But it is not working correctly. When I start a video, the application suddenly stops working (freezing) after some time and I have to close it with force.
And when I start the video, I have no sound at all.
My version:
Ubuntu 8.04.1
2.6.24-19-generic
Possible causes of this problem:
Using the wrong guides?
Didn't install the codecs I really need?
You can see what codecs and app's I installed in the guide!

Inappropriate?Which version of miro are you using?
If you start miro on the terminal in debugging mode ./miro --debug you'll get more information what happens and post the results to bugzilla.
If gstreamer and xine are installed on your system you may get it working with one of them - you've not written with which the application freeze happened.
If you playback the video with another player like vlc - does it work without problems? -
Inappropriate?Hi Pan,
I used the following command in the terminal: and here is the ouput:
david@david-laptop:~$ miro --debug
Usage: miro.real [options] [torrent files] [video files]
miro.real: error: no such option: --debug
Yes, I tried to playback the video with VLC and totem. And I ALSO have no sound. Its the same like in miro. And the video is running better and smother than in miro. -
Inappropriate?Hi Delta458,
the --debug option is only in the sources (if installed this seems to be removed), but if you've no sound at all it is not necessary to read the debug output.
There are several messages about no sound and hardy in forums. As an example here's one thread (I guess from your prompt you're using a laptop) ubuntuforums
First you may try if the sound volume isn't set to 0 (simple error but might happen). -
Inappropriate?@pan: I have a sound! but not in miro...
So I have to install the debug from synaptic? which command should I use in terminal? -
You can get the sources from the download section of getmiro.com but I don't think it's necessary. If sound is fixed but miro crashes you may enter a bugreport in bugzilla or try to rebuild miro from the source package. -
Inappropriate?I'm confused - do you have sound in vlc and/or totem during playback?
In miro you can select between xine and gstreamer. What are you currently using and what happens if you select the other?
In the trouble shooting section in this document are some hints if playback doesn't work.
If switching does not fix the sound problem I guess some codecs were missing and you've to install these packages. -
Inappropriate?Delta458, by chance do you have Firefox running when you try and play Audio. I have problems when I play audio in Firefox (ends up always being flash) and then try and play a file in Miro/VLC/Rhythmbox...
In my case I think in this case it is an issue with flash not using the sound mixer properly, which prevents other devices from using it properly at the same time.
So this isn't really a the fault of Miro. But it would be nice to have Miro detect that there was an error rather than it crashing when it can't play audio properly.
