Nothing is older than yesterday's news
This is what I am experiencing when using the auto download setting NEW for a couple of my channels that show TV news. So if I am starting up Miro after 2+days of inactivity, it unfortunately starts downloading not just today's news but also the items from the days before.
How about adding 1 additonal option to the auto download settings that says "NEW TODAY" or "LAST NEW", which only downoads the latest new item of that channel. If this one is already downloaded it will not download older ones even if these were not available last time I used Miro.

Inappropriate?Without this feature, I have to leave miro to others.
When this 'latest only' feature comes true, let me know please. -
Inappropriate? You can turn auto download off in a channel. When you do, if there are new videos the number of new videos is shown in blue and you can choose which ones to download.

I don't want to choose! If so, I would be using Youtube instead. The thing people love about Miro is that you watch all your favorite episodes in one stream! -

In this case, podcasts must be downloaded manually, while not 'auto'?
Imagining, as a TV, when you switch it on, it presented you just some plays or episodes you did not watch 3 or 5 days ago. Is this called 'TV'?
As I've seen, a lot of people living in Linux just need the function or option of 'auto download latest episode'.

Inappropriate?I suggest to make an option for each channel, choosing from "download newest first" and "download chronologically".
It would perform almost like "auto download latest episode" in combination with existing switch "don't download if X are unwatched". -
I love to see the feature "Newest only" for downloading news, too. -
Inappropriate?second this Idea. I've put this forward as a question http://getsatisfaction.com/participat...
I use Miro because it's convenient as watching television. I have it
already sorted on date making with the most recent video on top. But
it still means, I need to delete all other (6?) videos from the same
channel by hand. Actually I want to watch all downloaded (prefferred)
episodes after one other in Miro. That makes Miro for me. If I didn't
want a continious stream, I could also watch these videos also on
Youtube. So for me it's vital for using Miro that I don't have to
readjust things manually when watching.
I notice that Miro gives great support to people who want to watch all
episodes of a channel from one point in it. But the support for people
who want to watch only the most recent episode (no matter the older
videos) is lacking. I reposted my question on Getsatisfaction
http://getsatisfaction.com/participat...
Another question of another user seems related

Hope this helps making Miro better and usable for more users.
