I have Hardy Heron Ubuntu (8.04), and currently have Miro 1.2.3. How do I get Miro 2.0 to install?

Inappropriate? What's going on is that you're currently using the version of Miro that's in the Ubuntu maintained repository. Except in the case of security issues, they don't update the versions of software in their repositories.
There are two ways to get newer versions of software than what is offered in the Ubuntu maintained repositories:
1. build the packages yourself,
2. use packages maintained by someone else
In this case, we maintain packages for the most recent 2 versions of Ubuntu and whatever the current LTS version is.
If you go to:
http://www.getmiro.com/download/for-u...
it'll list the repositories for Ubuntu versions and instructions on how to add that repository to your package sources.
We're about to release 2.0.2 which has a bunch of fixes in it. If I were you, I'd hold off on upgrading to Miro 2 until next week.
Hope that helps!

I'm very new to Linux. What do I do with the line (presumably, the address) that begins with deb http:// etc.? -
Inappropriate? If you keep scrolling through that page, past the repositories, there are instructions on how to add it to the sources.

Inappropriate?greenfaerie: Did the instructions help? Are you all set?

Inappropriate?I'm all set! I just learned how to use the Synaptic Package Manager (which I hadn't known existed!) and now I've updated Miro.
Thanks again!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Having added the Intrepid repository, as intructed above, I still only have Miro 1.2.6 available, which is what I already had installed. Where can I get 2.0? Do I have to temporarily enable the repos for jaunty?
-
Inappropriate?Les: Are you running Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10)? Are you sure you added the repository correctly and pressed the Reload button in Synaptic?
Generally, it's a really bad idea to enable a different version's repositories, so don't enable Jaunty repos unless you're running Jaunty. -
Inappropriate?I believe I have it solved. For some reason Synaptic kept rejecting my repository edits, but when I edited /etc/apt/sources.list directly, (using this command: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list) Synaptic now finds the newest version of Miro. Thanks!

Inappropriate?Les: That's great! At some point, I'll do a pass on that download page for Ubuntu and make the Synaptic steps clearer. Sorry about that.
