Why does the site feed for things like Hulu not work under Linux?
The new version, 2.0, has a site feed for websites like Hulu. Why is it not supported under Linux?

Inappropriate?Sites aren't supported in Linux yet just because the flash plugin crashes Miro right now and we didn't have time to fix it before launch, like many other things. Sites in Linux will be supported ASAP, though.
Sites in Miro right now are very rudimentary in general. I see three big areas of improvement for Miro's handling of streaming sites, (1) RSS support, so Miro can keep track of what you've watched and you can use the normal Miro feed views to sort through episodes of show and keep track of what you've watched, (2) Support for Linux of flash sites, (3) Normal miro playback UI for sites (not in short term plans, but quite important for flexibility & UI consistency).
I’m confident we'll solve the problem

Inappropriate?Hi Rene and anyone else who comes across this thread. We talked over flash in Linux yestarday and apparently it is a pretty hairy problem. So it might be a while until you can watch flash video on Linux.
I’m bummed.

Inappropriate?Well, the statement "So it might be a while until you can watch flash video on Linux" doesn't seem entirely accurate - I'm watching a YouTube video right now...
-
This question is specifically for embedded Flash videos--not extracted videos. -
Inappropriate?bah, i was really excited when i heard about miro but i'm not going to install winblows just to use it

Inappropriate?I've gone to a lot of the sites that offer video content like hulu, scifi.com, fox et al using my browser. None of them offered a way to save files, & the program was presented in segments which branched to adverts in between.
Tr yin g to wat ch i t wa s ho rren dou s, and pausing past the segment boundary wiped the segment out.
I suspect this is a DRM issue more than anything else.
I’m as irritated as a wet itch

But the site feeds don't attempt to download anything. All they do is show the site, and play the Flash that's there. -
Hey - now... let's keep it professional. -
Inappropriate?"sites like hulu" which provide sponsored content seem to use a self-destructing protocol, which implies the DRM people are at work.
I'd like to know how much of the problem is software, and how much is legal muck?
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Some notes:
- Hulu shows can be added manually by ('Sidebar' menu > 'Add Site' > 'http://www.hulu.com/heroes' or whatever other show.)
- This shows the show title normally in the sidebar, and presents a xulrunner page when selected.
- Attempting to play a video in the resulting window displays the message 'Hulu requires Flash Player 9 or higher'.
- Flash Player 10, which should contain all the necessary elements is available for download, but not compile or redistribution
- xulrunner 1.9 allows a linked version of /usr/lib/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so in other applications, like Flock, Prism, etc.
So, long story short, can the developers create a workaround that allows a scan of /usr/lib/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so, /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so, /home/user/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so, or any other reasonable directory so that Miro can use a native copy of Flash, and thereby solve the problems?
I’m confident

Given that I can watch Flash in pretty much anything except Miro, I'm pretty confident that this is the answer we're looking for. I just wish I knew how to get Miro to do this. -
Yeah, does anyone know how to do this? -
Inappropriate?Seconded! (xwaver's post above)
I have the 64bit Flash Player 10 beta plugin working great in all the browsers on my system (symlinked from the usual places that xwaver mentioned above).
If stability is a concern, how about an advanced setting that allows toggling it on/off? Though given that Firefox, Opera, Epiphany, Midori (all the browsers I have handy) work fine with it you'd think that the browser engine in Miro would too...
I’m Hopeful

This implies that you know better, and if so then go ahead and fix it yourself... this is open source after all. No? Then let's just go ahead and flag this as defamatory flame bait and move on. You've contributed absolutely nothing constructive on this topic. -
You are right I don't know any better myself.
I can't fix it, you can't fix it, miro can't fix it.
I'm not claiming to be some elite programmer and I don't think the miro team should think they are either -
Inappropriate?I've never known a program so pathetically trying to get flash working in Linux. Miro cross-platform??? I think not
I’m happy
