Remove moderation of uploads
Suggestion:
Remove the need to moderate uploads.
Disclaimer:
My only submission hasn't been approved, so I'm not sure about how easy it is to get approved.
That said, removing the barrier to contribute would enable instant sharing. For instance: I find a great snippet of UI design. I post it to the site. I share the link on Twitter (courtesy of an auto-shortened URL). Instant gratification. Got to love that.
Related:
If you were to allow examples of bad design, removing the need to moderate content would solve itself. So long as your users are tagging bad design with "bad."
Beyond the suggestion:
Furthermore, it is subjective whether or not a design is good or bad, in some cases. A good navigation design to me might be different than your interpretation of a good navigation design. Allowing your users to have the freedom to say "this is good" and "this is bad" is a freedom worth considering. It let's them own their content. I could compile a collection of bad UI designs. (And in conjunction with adding descriptions to contributions) Then explain what makes it a bad design. Even if it's great typographically, it might stink functionally.
Thanks again for listening. Keep rocking on.

Inappropriate? Thanks for a great comment. Interesting ideas. I'll take this into consideration. Ultimately one of the main things that separates Pattern Tap from other inspiration sites out there is our quality. The images that have been decline usually should include a description of why, and I'm always up for discussion around this.

Inappropriate? How about the best of both worlds? A "rejected" designs page where people could comment/discuss/vote on what you've deemed to not be appropriate for the main tap. Maybe after a certain threshold, a particular design will be included in the main tap.
If this is to be a truly community tool, there should be less subjectivity. There are designs currently featured on pattern tap that I wouldn't necessarily consider to be remarkable. And I'm sure the opposite is true -- that there are some designs that I really like that you might not feel so impressed by.
Fair enough, as the moderator, it's your prerogative to accept/deny designs. But having a public recourse to argue a case or point to things that might not be immediately apparent is useful. Yes, the discussion could happen in private with you. But I think a public discussion is more informative. You get the benefit of varied design senses.
I’m inspired by this idea.
